Sarah Palin Is Not a Stand-In for Hillary Clinton
Fox News ^ | Friday, August 29, 2008 | Susan Estrich

Women are not fungible.

I don’t know if anyone sitting around with John McCain in the last few days has explained that to him; frankly, I don’t know if there even were any women sitting around with John McCain in the last few days. But, I think I understand a few things about Hillary’s base in the Democratic party, and why so many women have been so loyal to her, and if John McCain thinks that simply picking another person with similar anatomy is going to win their votes, he’s about to learn a very important lesson in gender politics.

Nothing again Sarah Palin. To be honest, I don’t know her. She is a newcomer to the national scene, new enough to make Barack Obama look like an old-timer.

She has been governor of Alaska for less than two years. Before that, she was mayor of a town in Alaska that is smaller than my immediate neighborhood. Sort of makes serving in the Illinois legislature look like secretary of state. She had the guts to take on the corrupt Republican establishment in her state, and she deserves credit for that.

{Snip}

Frankly, I was afraid he would pick Colin Powell, whose stellar credentials and accomplishments would have given a feel of experience and solidity to the Republican ticket – and eliminated entirely the racism argument for not supporting Obama – that might have clinched this election.

But he didn’t.

Maybe Powell wasn’t available. Maybe the problem was that he was pro-choice. Whatever it was, while the selection of Palin will certainly change the conversation quickly, it only underscores the questions about experience that have been the core of McCain’s attack on Obama. Only this time, they will be asked of the Republican ticket.

“he’s about to learn a very important lesson in gender politics”

Or perhaps, despite the ranting and raving of the socialists, collectivists, and sociology professors (but I repeat myself), “gender politics” just aren’t a part of McCain’s thought process.

What’s that saying about how indifference is worse than hatred? Must be all the more infuriating that he doesn’t just disagree with your agenda, he doesn’t even recognize its existence. Irrelevance sure breeds a lot of resentment.

Sarah Palin Is Not a Stand-In for Hillary Clinton

You're right, Susan. Gov. Palin is not corrupt, for starters. She's also not shrill. Plus she's nice and has executive experience.

Is that an airbrushed photo of her taken 20 years ago. I think so.

I believe she had plastic surgery about a year ago. It must have been a loooong procedure.

Palin is nothing like Hillary. Thank God.

She has experience.

She's attractive.

She can speak without reminding you of a blackboard and nails.

She doesn't kill babies.

Her husband has sex with ...her.

Yes, many differences from Hillary.

Anyone who thinks Sarah is the VP choice to get the feminazis is the one who needs the wake up call!

Helloooooo... can you say conservative base? Helloooooo... can you say good for America?

Personally, I don’t really care how the Hillary supporters vote, they can make the intelligent vote for McCain or stick with the same loser liberal ideas America has rejected time after time.

Amazing how Sarah has become a household name in such a short time! Everyone wants to know about her... she is the weekend buzz instead of what’s his name.

The condescension of women not like them by feminists has always been obvious. Anyone not like them must be a kept woman. I don’t think Sarah Palin fits the kept woman mold and will cause much angst for them.

Well let's see.

Sarah has a husband that loves her. Hillary, not so much.

Sarah has a husband that doesn't cheat on her. Hillary, well, maybe the first month or two...

Sarah earned her way - all the way. Hillary married what success she's had.

So no, Sarah Palin is not a stand in for Hillary Clinton. Hillary couldn't begin to be the woman Sarah is.

Life isn't fair...

Some of them (like me) would have stood in line for hours to vote for McCain - not because of him but because of Obama.

I know what you mean.

what makes SP so appealing is that she is the anti-Hillary: she has achieved what she has on her own, not on her husband’s coattails

Exactly.

I think the Hillaryites may be quite surprised at how many independent and soft-Republican women voted for Hillary in the primaries, not to mention blue-collar men who disliked the haughty and arrogant Obama. Those people are all going to vote for McCain-Palin. It’s hubris to think that all 18 million people who voted for Hillary are rabid feminist women who only care about abortion.

The people that post at http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/
are overwhelmingly saying they will vote for McCain because he added Palin to the ticket. They HATE Obama. Some are saying they have donated and volunteered for McCain.

We can use those voters and the knuckleheads at the McCain rally that booed Palin when she mentioned Hillary's name need to put a sock in it until November.

Ol' Susan is consistent. Consistently wrong. Here's a quote from her regarding the Duke Lacrosse No-Rape case.

"I teach criminal law. But what are we dealing with here? The mafia, or a sports team from a first-class university. Instead, they hire them lawyers to trash the victim and the prosecutor."

Has she ever been correct about anything?

Oh, did you know she went to Harvard? A lot of money wasted there, she's still an idiot.

She doesn’t determine her husband’s political beliefs, and he doesn’t determine hers. What a nice fit.

To be honest, every time I hear her speak I'm not sure Susan is a woman or if it's Rangel in drag. What I am sure of is that she is a shallow intellect. What is humorous to me is the assumption that McCain chose Sarah Palin to win the votes of Hillary supporters.

Perhaps many disaffected and ticked off Hillary voters will be impressed by Sarah Palin and winning their votes would be a November bonus for the Republicans. I'd like to think McCain chose Palin because she impresses conservatives like me who had no one to vote for and only Obama/Biden to vote against. Picking Sarah Palin was a smart move for McCain.
