Older Republican candidate picks relatively inexperienced young woman to be his vice president?
Check.
The Republican dies of a stroke and his VP becomes the leader of the free world?
Hmm ...
ABC's "Commander in Chief," starring Geena Davis, played out this scenario in 2005.
With 72-year-old Republican nominee John McCain shocking Beltway insiders by tapping 44-year-old Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his veep pick, suddenly a portion of the "Chief" premise seems downright precognitive.
"It's unbelievable isn't it?" said "Chief" creator Rod Lurie. "I think that Geena and I need to be paid royalties by the Republicans."
Lurie was reached by phone as he was leaving the Democratic National Convention, en route to Toronto, where he will screen his new film "Nothing but the Truth."
A Barack Obama supporter, Lurie criticized the real-life manifestation of his TV fiction.
"People who understand politics know anything is possible," he said. "Picking a woman is an absolute strategic idea from McCain's point of view. He's not talking about governing right now. The idea of this woman actually facing down [Vladimir] Putin and negotiating with [Dmitry] Medvedev is idiotic."
In the "Chief" pilot, the qualifications of Davis' character also came under fire before she later proved her worth.
"We don't need the world to see a soft, indecisive woman commanding the troops," one character declared.
That great show ran....what? 6 episodes?
Lurie sounds like a Self-Important Jerk amongst Self-Important Jerks.
They’ll be a woman president on 24 this year. And McCain did make a guest appearance on 24, so maybe it was the 24 producers that gave him the idea for a female veep. That makes as much sense as this nonsense.
Not very creative, there, you ho-wood punk. Dozens of others on your side have already used that idea during the past 24 hours.
Besides, we all know where zero bama's face will be when meeting putin: it'll be somewhere below putin's belt.
Has he met her? Worked with her? Is he basing his assumption on anything other than the fact that she is a woman?
Let's face it, if McCain/Palin don't win, it proves America is sexist and ageist. /S
OFF TOPIC.

Statement by the President on Governor Sarah Palin
White House News
Today, Senator McCain made an exciting decision in choosing Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to join him on his ticket as the Vice Presidential candidate. Governor Palin is a proven reformer who is a wise steward of taxpayer dollars and champion for accountability in government. Governor Palin’s success is due to her dedication to principle and her roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic and serves as a wonderful example of the spirit of America. By selecting a working mother with a track record of getting things done, Senator McCain has once again demonstrated his commitment to reforming Washington.
I applaud Senator McCain for selecting Governor Palin. This decision is yet another example of why the American people can trust him to make wise decisions and to confidently lead this country.

Uh.....Rod, WTF are you talking about? Governor Palin IS female. Aside from that there is no parallel. So, no royalties for you. Too bad.
You got me. Never saw it. Relatively sure I didn’t miss anything.
In other words: I’m not an intellectual, but I play one on TV and am therefore qualified to comment on such matters as if my opinion mattered. What a bunch of hooey!
First Jackson Browne wants $75,000 from McCain for playing one of his songs and now this. What is it with these greedy leftists anyway? It's always money, money, money. Gimme some money.
You know, the MSM is setting the bar awfully low for Governor Palin. They may regret doing what they are doing right now. If, as I suspect, she buckles down and learns the briefing books well enough, she can sound within 80-90% as good as Obama or even Biden. It’s not hard to get your head around foreign policy and economic details if you have advisors coaching you 24/7. Talking points only come in sets of ten anyhow. If she does the minimal, she will come across a great deal more competent than the idiot they are making her out to be.
If she does that, then her success is amplified by the low bar of expectations.
BINGO. THE COMMIES (LIBERALS) ARE SCARED TO DEATH.
This doesn't describe Sarah Palin. The author is either lying or uninformed.
It is my opinion that she could school the advisers. Head-to-head against Biden, she's a sure bet.
Johnny- you are taking what you are hearing in the MSM to be fact about Palin. She is a brilliant thinker and speaker- Newsweek released a lengthy interview she did some months back- watch it. It was so good, I was shocked Newsweek Online put it up.
That's two characters who had better be either dead or established as traitors by the time (4 episodes) that '24s' famous double-teaser is over, or '24' can kiss the season goom-bye.
I have my doubts about this occurring, though, now that Joel Cernow is gone.
Have these Dims ever heard of the namesake of Virginia, Queen Elizabeth I?
