"Who care what people think......Have your speech, country singer.....call now....donate.....John McCain...Country First......talk to Jindahl, Nagen, guy in Mississippi,Fema guy all of them.....heck have Democrats from that state talk... I dont care......think about how it will help people......"

EGGSACTLY BATMAN!

IN fact make an announcment right at the begining of the Convention: "Normally we would present our party's platform and Candidates during the next few days but instead we are going to use this venue to aide the victims on the gulf coast..."

I see not "partying" while "cities are destroyed," but it sure would be nice to see the Maverick not cave to media pressure and say, 'ya know, there is too much money and preparation involved here to simply cancel the event. that would be irresponsible.' But if they want to get in-your-face about the thing, I suppose a charity atmosphere is an idea. At least it disarms lefties that are actually HOPING for a cataclysm to score political points.

Other than fallout and perhaps a very slight bump up in wind speeds sometime later, a nuke would have little or no effect on a hurricane like Gustav. The “energies of scale” of a major hurricane are immensely greater than a nuke.

One source states that Hurricane Donna, in 1960, produced as much energy as an H-Bomb going off every 8 minutes (and in the ‘60’s, we were shooting off REALLY big H-bombs.)

The GOP is crazy if they don’t publicize this and demand that Fowler be fired.

Think, man. If you were McCain or the head of the RNC, what would you do?

I like how they take a negative and turn it into a positive. I know the media will try to spin it but screw them.

BO didn’t even need a disaster. Here you will see flags in garbage bags at the BO convention:

Well said. Right about their spin. The old media will make itself out to be as tacky as ever — fine. In order to defeat the left, we must continue to chip away at their propagandists’ credibility. It helps in both the long term and the short term. They'll try to smear any effort of goodwill, and McCain can use their own words [and tones] against them. Not to mention -- talk radio and FoxNews will not be silent.

Maybe McCain will rethink muzzling free speech now that he sees who his real friends are. We've always wanted to back a war hero who is ON THE RIGHT SIDE. We've always hoped and prayed that guys like him would understand our Founders' vision. Some folks need to suffer a backstab from flatterers before they learn who to trust.

No matter how this shakes out, the coverage of this convention will be an eye opener for McCain.

We will see if it is an eye opener or not. Bush never seemed to understand it.

“Think, man. If you were McCain or the head of the RNC, what would you do?”

Why not this?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2071482/posts

IMO, this telethon idea is nothing but a PR train wreck waiting to happen.

Personally, I'd rather see McCain (whom I have no love for) sitting at a direct-line phone to Jindal and the state offices of all states effected by landfall, surrounded by the rest of the GOP heads of GOP states also at phones. He can tell Jindal, “Tell me what you need” and go about getting things done with the assistance of those states.

You can shoot holes in that if you want. I learned more than 45 years ago in boot camp, that I am not a leader of men, but if the GOP turns itself into a clearinghouse for donated cash, it will be a disaster. Just remember the myriad scandals over donations for 9/11!
