The Kremlin moved swiftly to tighten its grip on Georgia’s breakaway regions yesterday as South Ossetia announced that it would soon become part of Russia, which will open military bases in the province under an agreement to be signed on Tuesday.

Tarzan Kokoity, the province’s Deputy Speaker of parliament, announced that South Ossetia would be absorbed into Russia soon so that its people could live in “one united Russian state” with their ethnic kin in North Ossetia.

The world was duped into believing Russia was simply defending the South Ossesian territorial integrity. They simply wanted to steal the country.

Isn’t “independence” just wonderful, S-Ossetia? “Independence” probably has been redefined to “being annexed by the largest landmass in the world”.

Does that mean that the U.S. can invade say British Columbia.
Beat hell out of the indiginous folks there and make it our 58th state?

RUSSIA TO ABSORB SOUTH OSSETIA

Putin is following in Hitler's mold...striking resemblance to Germany, the Sudetenland and Czechoslovakia in 1938.

That's funny.

I thought that the freedom-loving people of South Ossetia, unlike their North Ossetian brethren, were struggling valiantly for independence and self-dtermination.

My, what a shock.

Unfortunately our own politicians, NATO and the UN are taking a hint from Neville Chamberlin and the League of Nations. If this continues we’ll be at war by 2010.

This should be a shock to no one, other than the speed at which their doing this. I thought they would wait a few months before casually annexing the regions while no one was paying attention.

That didn’t take long. First you issue Russian passports to the ethnic Russians in South Ossesia then send in tanks to protect “your citizens” and then annex in the name of Lebensraum.

Actually, I’m surprised they took this long to admit what they were doing.

There was a lot of outrage around here at FR...and there still is.

What Clinton did was wrong and Bush compounded it by recognizing the monstrocity. Now the Russians are paying back in spades...but that doesn't make the Russians right, any more than us.

There's an old saying about two wrongs.

Except they are moving faster than the Fuhrer dared.
