"Medicine," the professor added, "was born in the Middle Ages to do what was offered in the classical era: to cure. [
] If this is impeded, medicine is finished." And many do not realize how slippery a slope we are on.

“opposed to euthanasia because the right to die then runs the risk of becoming a duty.”
Hit the nail right on the head with this one.

Can we all assume Judge Greer has a living will?

"Since knowing that I am sick, I feel like living every instant of my life, precisely because I realize that it is the only one I have," she said.*****************
Exactly right. As should we all.

I just was in the hospital (Wednesday through Friday). Upon admittance, the nurse came into my room and was reviewing my medical history.
She asked me if I had a living will. I replied no. “Do everything possible to keep me alive,” I answered.
The next question was whether I would like a social worker to discuss one with me. “No.”
Sheesh.

Do NOT sign a "living will." Instead, you want a "Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care." Designate someone you trust to make decisions for you when you're unable to do so. You can't anticipate all situations. No matter how you try to tie down a doctor with a "living will," they can wiggle around your language. You want someone you trust making decisions for you, not someone who wants to save money by letting you die, or who wants to salvage organs from your corpse.
