Former Bay State Gov. Mitt Romney - considered a leading contender for John McCains running mate - praised the Arizona senators surprise pick today, saying Alaska Gov. Sarah Palins story is inspiring.
Governor Palins story is one that all Americans will find inspiring, Romney said in a statement issued earlier today.
Shes a Washington outsider with a commitment to the conservative principles that will make our nation stronger. I look forward to campaigning for Senator McCain, Governor Palin and Republicans all across the country, Romney said.

Governor Romney is a class act and so is Sarah Palin! Go McCain (never thought I would say that)
Thank you Mitt...showing your selflessness to the Country again!!!! Twice in a year. Amazing!!! Maybe she will pick him for her VP candidate in 2012...lol.
Mitt for Secretary of State!!!
Mitt in the Cabinet! Go McCain! Go Palin!
Good for you, Mitt! This shows what a clas act Mitt Romney is and what a great judge of character. One of Mitt’s great strengths as an executive is in appraising talent and I think this endorsement is heartfelt and very well thought out.
Atta boy Mitt, McCain will need a good Sectreaury to put some common sense into lending practices mandated by left wing loons in Congress.
John McCain could round things out perfectly with:
1) Romney as Secretary of Treasury
2) Petreaus as Secretary of Defense
3) John Bolton Secretary of State
4) Guiliani to Homeland Security
5) Lieberman for NSA ?
An admirable response that promotes party unity. God bless you, Mitt!
“Go McCain”
Never thought I would say that either.
I would have bet the farm that McCain wasn’t going to choose a pro life conservative as his VP.
However I am waiting for the other shoe to drop from him.....
So much classier than what we would have expected from the Mitt haters on this board if he had been chosen.
I have some concerns about her readiness, but she has a lot of upsides. My wife and I watched the announcement and she said it was too bad we couldn’t reverse the ticket, or better yet Mitt could have chosen her. Now that would have been a landside for the Republicans.
Mitt has so much class. I look forward to seeing much more of him in several positions of leadership in the future. John McCain is very blessed to have Mitt's commitment alongside him in this election cycle.

Well, thatll teach you. Not trusting Free Republic cost you money today. I suppose that puts you in a relatively rarified atmosphere. And earlier, I was so impressed with your call to short Romney at 70. You could have made a real killing today, but your distrust of Free Republic got in the way.
Somehow Im going to make this combination of Free Republic + Intrade make me some money.

Exactly!!!
What a gracious statement! Mitt is a gentleman.
I’ve never been a Romney fan, in terms of him being the standard bearer for the GOP, but this was a classy move, and I’m glad he’s on board.
Wish we got this, of course.
I think Lieberman would be good at State and Giuliani as Attorney General as well
