Sarah Palin: The Double-X Dan Quayle
RCP ^ | August 29, 2008, 12:22 PM | Dee Dee Myers

“Not again!” I thought to myself this morning, as news trickled out that John McCain was set to pick Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. Not again, because too often women are promoted for the wrong reasons, and then blamed when things don’t go right.

Don’t get me wrong: what I know of Palin (which admittedly isn’t much), I kind of like. I don’t agree with her politics. But in her two years in Alaska’s state house, she’s shown herself to be a scrappy reformer, a no-nonsense manager, and a consistent conservative. She’s also a mother of five, which in my book is a sterling test of leadership.

It’s such a transparently political decision, a double-X Dan Quayle. McCain made the decision to double down on his credentials as a take-no-prisoners reformer. But he did so at the expense of the more important qualifications for a running mate.

It’s not political to say that John McCain turns 72 today. That he’s a cancer survivor. That he spent six years being tortured and abused in a Vietnamese prison camp. Those are the physical realities of his life, and pure and simple, they demanded that he chose a running mate who is ready, really ready. That he put country first. Today, he failed that test.

Worse, when Sarah Palin falls short—and I hope I’m wrong but I think in important ways, such as her debate with Joe Biden, she will—some people will conclude that women can’t cut it. That’s unfair to Sarah Palin—and it’s certainly unfair to the rest of us.

Bob Beckel was on Fox and Friends this morning and was really troubled at the though of Sarah Palin. This was before the announcement and you could see he was really troubled.

Nearly every liberal Obamanut I know is having multiple, simultaneous strokes over this. Therefore, it must be a good thing.

Whereas being a FATHER of five would count for absolutely nothing in Dee Dee's book. Whatever.

I need to send Ross Perot a thank-you card for giving us Bill Clinton.

You need to send that to G.H. "No New Taxes" Bush, aka "Read My Lips" and the RNC.

newsflash, Dee: Sarah Palin is more qualified than barry to be president. And should anything happen to McCain, Sarah would then choose from a vast field of men and women who are far more qualified to be VP than joe biden.

On the "Draft Sarah Palin" web site, a poster from a couple of weeks ago in August posted a comment that, if correct, may prove to be a plus regarding what the writer called, "Palin's debating skills," as follows:

"Her debating skills were shown to be masterful when she took the pants of her two opponents in the Alaska Governor's Primary Debate, which has already been posted on the web. Moreover, Palin is skilled at media, having formerly been a TV journalist."

Hmmmm.....a TV journalist and a good debater, and one who can tell the story of her lovely family and their newest baby.

The life issue suddenly cannot be cast off as casually as the Denver spectacle tried to cast it last night, and the trite old phrase, "a woman's right to choose" to destroy the life and liberty of an unborn child can be properly articulated by a woman who has made her own "choice."

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them." - Thomas Jefferson

We WON with Dan Quayle... the first time. These libs are soooo angry! It’s a mystery why.

I opined to a friend this morning that the problem the libs had with Bush/Quayle was not with Bush - it was with Quayle, because he was viewed as more conservative than the moderate Bush. (I wasn't following closely then, so others might have a better view of it than I).

Granted, 41 didn't do himself any favors, reversing his pledge on "no new taxes" (or making that pledge in the first place), but I'm guessing that they viewed Quayle as the bigger threat - hence the need to take both of them out.

Sarah Palin has done more as Gov than Clinton had in 1992.

How long was Clinton a Governor before he ran for President?

Dee Dee Myers was a great example of a woman put into a position of power for the wrong reasons who made women look stupid.

On the other hand, I can be happy when Dee Dee Myers and Paul Begala (other thread) tell me how bad McCain messed up.

Numerous commentators stated that in a terrible reelection campaign, Quayle was the one person who ably represented the ticket. I didn’t make that up. In any event, in the year in which Quayle was picked, his inexperience and National Guard service were made an issue, and Bush Sr. won. Therefore, the anaology of OMG another Quayle is pointless. They won. And indeed, this woman is no Dan Quayle, she is terrific.

Poor Dee Dee, looks like shes fallen off the wagon with McAmnesty making such an EXCELLENT CHOICE for VP. Expect a LOT more liquor stores running out of supplies due to excessive depression that will be settling in on them.

I predict that on Wednesday, November 5, the libs and the media (but I repeat myself) will shelve BDS in favor of a new affliction:

Palin
McCain
Syndrome

(for those in Rio Linda...well, never mind)

Take a flying leap, Dee Dee. Watching the Dems snark today has proved quite telling to the majority of America just what they're really all about.

These people are nothing but America hating, radical scum. The lowest of the low. This woman has more executive experience than their Presidential candidate, so they can just p!ss off. Period. She's a mom, kept her Down's Syndrome child instead of aborting him, loves her husband, and has proved herself a competent and scrappy politician in her home state. While their candidate hides from his past and all of his Marxist radical mentors, America hating pastors in his church like "God D@@@ America!" Wright, and best buddies, like unrepentant terrorist Ayers.

Dee Dee Myers is trying to repair the cracks in the glass ceiling before Palin can shatter it.

I just wonder with what caliber weapon Mrs. Palin will shatter that glass ceiling!

perhaps the reason she was exiled was that Hillary found out Dee Dee WAS a bimbo eruption.
