(CNN) – A leading House Democrat said Thursday John McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is a "risky" move that could ultimately prove disastrous to the Republican prospects in November.

Meanwhile, a top Senate Democrat said the pick is a "Hail Mary pass" and a "roll of the dice," in what is the initial reactions from McCain's rival party.

I wonder if this will affect other Freepers like myself, WHO BEFORE TODAY, was going to stay home.

Well, judging by the other threads on this subject today(I went to bed at 3 last night and got up at 5:30 because it was beginning to look then as if Palin was it)a whole sh** load of them have come back to the fold.

I was voting for McCain, reluctantly, even though his campaign has stirred me up a little, but now I am joyously voting for him and not just because of Palin, but also because McCain had the guts and intuition to pick her.

He listened to his party and picked the right person for the job, that alone gets him my vote gladly, Palin is just the icing on the cake. I don't know if you can grasp my meaning or not I am slightly giddy right now!

Speaking as a former smug liberal atheist (are there any other kinds?), I’m thrilled. Social conservativism is a woman-friendly philosophy. Social liberalism throws women (and their children, born or unborn) to the wolves. She will help spread that message to families everywhere.

Alll she will have to do is compliment Sen. Biden about what a thought provoking statement he just made — and then add with a question — “who was that that said that before?”

The comments at the end of this story are pitiful. One guy even suggested that there was a connection between Palin's selection and the fact that her husband was an employee of BP. Heck, at least he works at an honest job. What does Michelle Obama do again?
