British journalism student gang-raped by asylum seekers in Calais squatter camp

A British student has been gang-raped by illegal immigrants in Calais, it has been revealed.

The woman was writing a story on asylum seekers for her journalism course when she was attacked, police said.

Up to 100 men have been rounded up as potential witnesses to the crime, which is alleged to have taken place in a notorious squatter camp nicknamed 'The Jungle'.

Police said the attack was of a particularly 'brutal nature'.

I didn’t read the full article, but Calais is a town on the French coast, just opposite England where the English Channel narrows. It was in English hands for much of the high middle ages.

What's the name of the journalist who was mugged (in Lebanon, I think?) There was a picture of him with a very bandaged head and he was on the record as saying that he deserved it because he was part of the Imperialist machine that had been repressing Arabs for years and years (or some such rot).

In December 2001 he was beaten to a pulp in Pakistan by a group of refugees from Afghanistan.

RichInOC’s comment was tasteless, but in all likelihood this woman’s tragic experience was the result of her naive embrace of bleeding-heart leftist notions that are rampant in J-schools, and that she was eager to promote. If there’s a silver lining in this, it’s that perhaps she and some of her J-school friends will see things differently now, and hopefully be motivated to start promoting a more realistic view of the “human” side of immigration issues.

This seems probable. There's no doubt her behavior was extremely unwise and a disastrous outcome could be anticipated by anyone with common sense.

That's a far cry from saying journalists deserve to be gang-raped because of their profession.

I understand her wanting to do a story, what I do not understand is her not taking an escort or bodyguard!!!!

I'm sure she went in without an escort or bodyguard because she wanted to get "the real story" from the squatters, and thought that if a bodyguard or other non-squatter male who could handle himself was present, they might suspect that he was with the police or immigration service and that would compromise their willingness to speak freely to her.

In reality, they lied to her anyway. And then they gangraped her.
