McCain to announce running mate on Friday (make your predictions now)
International Herald Tribune ^ | Aug. 28, 2008 | Elisabeth Bumiller and Michael Cooper

Posted on 08/27/2008 7:39:17 PM PDT by FocusNexus

Senator John McCain has decided on his running mate, two Republican strategists in contact with McCain's campaign said Wednesday. He is expected to reveal his choice at a rally at a basketball arena in Dayton, Ohio, at 11 a.m. Friday.

McCain's decision is known only to his small inner circle of advisers, no more than three or four people, who have refused all public discussion on the matter. Republicans close to the campaign said that the top contenders remained the same three men who have been the source of speculation for weeks: former Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and, possibly, Senator Joseph Lieberman, independent of Connecticut.

Bad choice, Bush’s budget director and is totally wedded to the World Trade Org running our country into the ground. If he picks Portman his numbers will drop in the 3 states he needs faster than Guliani’s campaign went up in smoke.

I wouldn’t pick Fiorina, the Dems would eat her Hewlett Packard departure for lunch.

I don’t care who he picks, I’m not voting for him.

This was my attitude when it was first evident that he was going to be the GOP candidate.

However I have come full circle! I WILL vote for McCain no matter WHO he picks for a running mate as NO ONE that he picks could compare with Obama ! NO ONE...

He WILL INFACT be the next president if you don't vote or vote for a candidate that has no chance.

I sure attempted to be polite and not use any invective in our exchange and I won't now.

Your vote is yours to cast as you see fit. I didn't and don't take any exception with that. I am saddened, but only marginally, that here on a once great "conservative" forum that the attitude you have taken with my right to vote my principles cause you and others here in great numbers these days to go out of your/their way to take umbrage with me.

I haven't and won't castigate anyone for casting their vote as they see fit. Not any longer. I used to offer up the same specious argument you endeavor to lay one me.

No longer!

Again, your vote and your reasons for casting it in the way you will, principled or otherwise, is yours. You haven't seen me taking issue with you and I won't. Oh, that you would give me the same courtesy.

McCain needed to pick a VP who:

-Is younger.
-Has some experience, preferably executive.
-Has a grasp of the economy.
-Would help pick up votes in swing states.
-Has minimal baggage that would be ammo for the Dems.
-Looks and is capable not only of being a VP but also of
running the country if McCain should get sick or pass on.

Pawllenty and Mitt fit the bill the best IMO. I give Mitt the edge due to economic experience and swing states.

Most Americans don’t understand WTO and I doubt the other side could pick on it much. Portman is a solid conservative otherwise. Young, articulate, good choice but maybe not the strongest choice.

Why do you consider it’s “impolite” to point out reality?

Your vote is certainly yours to cast as you wish. But you cannot escape the CONSEQUENCES of your vote.

“However noble their intentions, conservatives who do not vote for John McCain will be morally complicit in what happens to America during an Obama presidency.” — Dennis Prager

don’t be so fast to say “no matter what”

wait,
see
decide.

McCain still needs to EARN our vote.

If he gives the finger to conservaives, he should appropriatly be rewarded.

Be ‘cute’ to announce tomorrow evening as B.O.’s speech is winding down. But Friday will do.

Obama, on the other hand will really follow the wishes of conservatives... He deserves to be rewarded with their vote,(/sarc)

My Fellow Freepers,

I am selecting a sleeper or wildcard as the McCain VP selection: the former US Senator from IL, REP. Peter G. Fitzgerald.

Below is an excellent article that I offer as exhibit # 1.

Retiring Senator Stood Up for Principles
Thursday , February 12, 2004

By Radley Balko

When a long-serving politician retires, we’re often treated to windbag editorials from newspapers and columnists about the virtue of public service, and how the latest retiring politician contributed to it.

Never mind that one of the ways one becomes a long-serving politician is by building up constituencies by doling out pork and patronage, and that many long-serving politicians spend their careers lusting after the perks and privileges of power.

When Congress adjourns this year, Sen. Peter Fitzgerald (search), R-Ill., will retire after just one term. He’s retiring because his own party has turned on him and promised to run a primary candidate against him. That’s because this particular senator decided that while he was in office he’d be his own man and vote his own conscience. He wouldn’t be a lackey for his party, he wouldn’t vote pork home to his state, and he wouldn’t do what the special interests who run his party told him to do. And that got him into trouble.

When Fitzgerald announced his retirement last April, he’d already been the scorn of his home state’s newspaper columnists and editorial boards. The Republican Party — both state and national — was elated to see him go. The Washington Times ran an editorial gloating over his departure. No one, it seems, would be shedding any tears over Peter Fitzgerald’s retirement. That’s too bad, because we need a heck of a lot more Peter Fitzgeralds in Washington.

If he is picking a woman to pick a woman it will be the biggest repudiation of gender quota and give the white house to Obama EASILY.

Is McCain picking a VP or trying to find a way to, as BILL CLINTON SAID LOVINGLY during the DNC convention “shove it to the conservative orthodoxy”.

McCain has a straight shot to victory, PANDERING will mean defeat.

Kay Baily means defeat.
Meg Whitman means defeat.
even the unproven Palin means defeat

no quotas, quality only.
