Senator John McCain has decided on his running mate, two Republican strategists in contact with McCain's campaign said Wednesday. He is expected to reveal his choice at a rally at a basketball arena in Dayton, Ohio, at 11 a.m. Friday.
McCain's decision is known only to his small inner circle of advisers, no more than three or four people, who have refused all public discussion on the matter. Republicans close to the campaign said that the top contenders remained the same three men who have been the source of speculation for weeks: former Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and, possibly, Senator Joseph Lieberman, independent of Connecticut.

After reading 154 posting my 2 cents worth is this:
Most speculation about a running mate for McCain is folly as the two most likely candidates are:
1. Mitt Romney because of his vast experience in business, the 2002 Winter Olympics, and having been a Governor. He’s also attractive and is a very energetic campaigner. I think he is the strongest candidate, and would be the most vigorous during a debate!
2. Tim Pawlenty - Prior to being the governor he was in the Minnesota legislature and while he was there the GOP actually became the majority party, and he was the majority leader. He’s been a good governor here in Minnesota despite such a liberal leaning populace. (although the folks here are not as liberal as they vote!) The fact that the liberals here hate him so much is reason enough to trust that he’s a conservative. He’s a strong pro-lifer, and he’s been the head of McCain’s national campaign. So, that means McCain trusts him. Pawlenty just finished a term as the head of the National Governor’s Conference. He has a good and fast wit. He is not boring!
Any other names are dark horses.
Also, I saw the blurb on US News. Never heard of the reporter who is naming unnamed sources. Not very credible.

Look, I’m pro-life, but honestly it doesn’t make a bit of difference whether or not a freaking vice-presidential selection is pro-life or not. They have absolutely nothing to do with that law. This country has had a strong pro-life PRESIDENT for the past eight years and it’s no different now then it was when Clinton was in office. Abortion is a disgusting thing, but there is NOTHING the Vice-President of the United States can do to stop it, or even advance it for that matter. The bottom line here is to stop Obama. Period.

I guess you will take real pride and pleasure in knowing you helped Obama become president.
What “sweet reflection” that will be — not to mention watching the entire US being destroyed because “you stuck to principle”. Helping someone become president who stands against everything you stand for, is NOT consistent with a principled vote.

Sometimes the bitterist pill is that which is best for you. Regardless of who the VP Pick for McCain is, we should do right do right if the stars fall, do right. It is neither right nor safe to ask someone to vote against conscience. Incremental destruction is what that leads to. Or, perhaps a hard lesson.
Following the link from the link — the source is an LA Times reporter: “Whitman lines up with McCain on many issues – although she said she doesn’t agree with his call for overturning the abortion rights decision Roe vs. Wade.”
I want McCain to pick Pawlenty and I believe that is who he is going to pick.
The smartest choice would be Palin, though.
