The above is the RCP headline.
Obama will struggle to win as the real American. He has to do it on his terms
With startling chutzpah, Republicans are again casting the opponent as out of touch. Democrats shouldn't play the game.
(snip)
The current worry of many Democrats, who once thought Denver would be a celebration en route to a coronation, is that Barack Obama could be about to join that uncelebrated company. Polls show the race with John McCain locked in a dead heat, Obama's lead eroded to zero. The question delegates and bigwigs are asking each other in the hotel lobbies and on the shuttle buses is: "Why aren't we ahead?"
They all know the landscape has rarely looked more favourable to their party. A Republican president is the most consistently unpopular since records began. Nearly 80% of Americans say their country is heading in the wrong direction. The economy is tanking and US soldiers are still dying in an unpopular war. As the California strategist Bob Mulholland told me, straining to be heard over the convention house band: "If George W Bush was seeking re-election, we'd be 20 points ahead."
(snip)
That's one possible explanation for Obama's failure to pull ahead, but Democrats have no shortage of others. Some blame Obama's recent vacation in Hawaii, leaving the playing field to McCain: while Obama was on the beach, the Georgia crisis erupted, allowing the Republican to pose as the seasoned foreign policy sage.
(snip)
The US media go along with all this. There is a starting assumption that Republicans are, by definition, solid, patriotic all-Americans. It is Democrats who have to prove themselves. Thus the press recycle endlessly Obama's reference to the price of arugula - but almost never mention Cindy McCain's preference for the private jet.

Liberals will blame anyone and anything. We saw them "call out the media" before the 2004 election. The Libs are grumbling about the Media even earlier. I'm sure the Media will do their best to help Barry O. Next week will be interesting.
Without the Media, the Left is Nothing.
It looks like they’re already preparing their excuses for Obama’s defeat. I think they think he’s going down and are seeking people to blame. Their bad ideas, of course, are never to blame.
“but almost never mention Cindy McCain’s preference for the private jet.”
Cindy McCain doesn’t get on her high horse babbling about global warming and pretending she’s an average Jane.
PS — the reason Dems always have to fight to convince people that they are patriotic is because THEY ARE NOT.
Liberals know they own the media...so, if they’re not winning, it must be the media’s fault.
It’s amazing, isn’t it? Most Dems at the convention won’t even talk to Fox News, yet I bet there are more people working at Fox voting for Obama over McCain.
The Democrats/Left expect total loyalty from the Media. They know if the Media was truly “objective,” the Democrats would never win anything.
I’ve said this before...The Guardian IS the most Anti-American newspaper outisde of the U.S. They called us “Idiots” on the front page of their daily after W won in 2004.
Anything that makes our country/conservatives look bad, they will print it. I just take this crap with a grain of salt.
The United States of America faces three enemies.
1. Islamofascist terrorists
2. The American Left
3. The Mainstream Media
And, of these three, the most dangerous adversary is the MSM. Because, without the MSM, the other two would've been defeated years ago.
It's your candidate. -Tom
“With startling chutzpah, Republicans are again casting the opponent as out of touch.”
No, they’re casting him as inexperienced. Which he is. What level of criticism would be acceptable to Obama’s synchophants?
The fact is, the mainstream media has not touched Obama.
This really is infuriating. The nonensical premise that the Media is out to get Barack Obama. Wow! How deluded does someone have to be write such a piece. How deluded does someone have to be to publish such a piece.
American Presidential elections work like this:
Step 1: The American Media picks out who they think should be President. For 2008, the Media has selected Barack Obama.
Step 2: Frame all dissent on the Media selection as irrational. This year, everyone who is not voting for Barack Obama is a racist.
Step 3: Produce polling that shows the Media preferred candidate is winning and that the opponent basically just needs to give up.
Step 4: Carefully study persistent indications that the Media’s preferred candidate is not preferred by the public?
Step 5: Suffer shock and remorse as the Media candidate loses.
Step 6: Blame the results on an irrational public and evil Republican machine. Perhaps the election was stolen?
Start again on step 1.
There comes a moment as is so often the case where the Democrat candidate is exposed for what he is by a process of debates, youtube candor, or inadvertent media coverage. This process gradually destroys any reasonable chance of getting the Trojan horse inside the electoral gates.
I grow weary of describing to the Anointed why there savior lost AGAIN.
Stop being so absurdly pathological. Allow people to criticize your savior and your savior might have the resilience to actually when the election.
This candidate is the most over protected candidate — perhaps in history.
It will be a long October for the Dems.

This is the most misleading and therefore useless question in the history of polls.
I would answer that we are heading in the wrong direction because of the possibility of electing Obama or fact of heading down the slope to reverent Socialism. Others any feel the same for the very opposite reason. Pure balderdash!
“It looks like theyre already preparing their excuses for Obamas defeat.”
Yes, and if he does lose, they won’t mention the Clinton’s stabbing him in the back. They’ll put the blame on Republicans and Karl Rove’s “dirty tricks”.
I guess it’s not satire. Talk about left-wing extremism.
Which of the 57 states does this guy live in?
Altered.
You NAILED IT!
My former tagline: Without the Media, the Left and Islamofacists are NOTHING!
Without the Media, the Democrats would never win a national election. They would never dominate both houses of Congress.
LOL!
Yup. I, a staunch Conservative, would say the country is moving in the wrong direction...towards Socialism.
But, the Media spins everything, as usual.
IIRC, the Guardian is the one which had its readers write to voters in Clark County, Ohio, and urge them to vote for Kerry. They got thousands of letters back, most of them telling the Guardian and its readers to mind their own business (in less polite terms).
Who is the nit wit who wrote this ?
