Conservative Democrats Peeling Away From Obama
Gallup ^ | 27 August 2008 | by Lydia Saad

Posted on 08/27/2008 8:39:14 AM PDT by Terrence DoGood

Obama held the slight upper hand in the race from early June through mid-August. His failure to maintain that last week -- averaging a tie with McCain at 45% -- can be largely explained by some defection from the conservative wing of the Democratic Party, as well as less crossover support from moderate and liberal Republicans.

Given these contradictory partisan trends, and the fact that Gallup finds no clear pattern in the recent weekly presidential preference trends by religion, there does not seem to be a coherent ideological or religious basis to the shift (such as might be explained by the controversy over Obama's views on abortion).

“Conservative” Democrats? Don’t make me laugh. There are only two kinds of Democrats, the living, and the good ones.

There actually are “conservative” democrats. My sister is one. She hasn’t voted for a democrat since ol’ BJ’s impeachment, but is still registered as a democrat, despite the fact she’s more fiscally conservative than most Republicans. I can’t explain it.

That’s how Reagan got elected in two landslides.

The democrat voters are not as for left as the socialists who now control the party machine and they are far less socialist than Obama.

And since both types still vote, we need to stay on our toes :-)

I know someone exactly like that, he is fiscally very conservative but believes in gay marriage and open serve in the military, also is for full mandatory health care for everyone.

I try to argue with him, but it just hurts my head because he jumps leanings on topics like a weather vane in a tornado.

More like halfway rational 1950s style democrats which still exist here and there vs the new lunatic variety.

I think Harry Truman must be tormented right now wondering if the Democratic party leadership has gone completely insane in putting forth candidates like Lurch & The Womanizer and now the Witch from the Arkansas Mafia and some empty-headed, closet commie flake with an arabic name!

Building bizarre faux temples to himself won’t help with them either.

This has got to be one of the strangest campaign years of all time.

I am figuring conservative dems are not thrilled about Obama’s very good chance of getting us nuked.

See, there's your mistake. You're trying to speak logically to someone who votes based on emotional appeal. I recommend 800-milligram Ibuprofen.

(chuckle) Yes, it is a bit of a paradox, or better yet, an oxymoron. Regardless of the radical leftist position of the far-left, I would still think, having still a very small degree of faith in human sanity in today’s politics, that there would be some that could not support a flat-out Marxist/Stalinist radical liberal in our White House. What would happen is just TOO PLAIN to any even semi-educated, semi-aware people. Not that there are very many of those in the DimoRat ranks, but I think we are going to be surprised at the vote content for McCain, when the smoke clears, such that it will contain a larger-than-expected “closet McCain voters” from the “radical” leftist ranks.

So true... I think that’s why a lot of rural Wisconsin votes Democrat. I know that’s why my in-laws are Dems... They are “Old-Fashioned” Democrats - although they do fall for the propaganda about the war for oil a little too much for my taste!

“There actually are “conservative” democrats.”

As one of the original Reagan Democrats, growing up in a big family of Conservative Democrats, now solid Republicans, I agree.

Don’t confuse the Democrat operatives in D.C. and in other leadership posts with Democrat citizens. My dad is a Democrat who will NOT be voting for B. Hussein.

Also, in states like Florida there are Democrats in the north who are conservative...and even a significant number of liberal Jewish Democrats in the south who will not vote for The ObaMessiah.
