What 'culture war'?

What 'culture war'?

At the conventions, they'll try to stir up red-blue divisions. But most Americans hold un-partisan views.

By Dick Meyer

August 27, 2008

As the nation's attention reluctantly turns to the political parties' conventions, with their scripted suspense and stage-managed sentiment, it is important to keep in mind that these are phony representations of American political life. But the slick video profiles, the teary appearance of a beloved party elder -- these are not what is most phony about the conventions.

This gathering of America's civic tribes -- and the reporters who love them -- in separate cities for days of synchronized cheering and jeering is the embodiment of a great American myth: that the nation is divided into "two Americas," polarized between "red" and "blue" camps that have fundamentally different values and moral outlooks. Each of the nominees will tell our allegedly divided country that he, and he alone, can manage to unite America for the next four years.

The idea that there is vast war over the moral and spiritual compass of the nation is a dramatic narrative, and it has dominated popular political analysis for nearly two decades. It makes for potent, inflammatory political commercials. It just doesn't have the added virtue of being true.

The MSM keeps on spinning. They have nothing left and they're looking at the wreckage of their overselling of Obama!

Extremists, however rare, are becoming more common and, importantly, more rabid.

I'm prepared to say that most Americans are somewhat middle-of-the-road -- but leaning Conservative in a mild way.

The whole idea of the Culture War, IMO, is that the News media, the Entertainment business, the government schools, and the colleges and universities are filled with rabid, slobbering, far Left Extremists who absolutely hate this country.

THAT's the culture war.

Hillary Clinton said “partner by his side” last night.
Not wife,
Not first lady,
Partner.
This is the politics of social reengineering. Wives are not welcome at the DNC.

(where is Huma at the convention?)

It’s always a phony controversy when liberals are exposed as diabolical.

When you read where a reporter writes about American’s as being “ pragmatic, independent and un-partisan in their basic views” take note. It’s close to an election and there is something on the ballot, a ballot measure that liberals don’t want the people to vote on.

What this really means is, Lets not talk about abortion, gay marriage, and/or immigration because liberals can not debate these issues publicly. Their reasoning doesn’t stand up to logic.

So every election cycle you get articles like this one where the reporter tries to play moderator in a vicious culture war. One that if we didn’t have such a left wing media would be won hands down by traditional American’s. You know, those who think killing babies is evil, Gay Marriage is an oxymoron, much like a square wheel, and securing our borders isn’t racist.

Expect these types of articles around every election cycle. Especially if ballot measures are to be on the ballot in states where liberals scheme and plot to keep the folks uninformed.

Wives are not welcome at the DNC because we have hookers.

No culture war. I see. And there is no homosexual agenda either. Ask the 300 GBLT delegates in Denver. They will tell you they have no “agenda” either.

Poll after poll, focus group after focus group show that the vast majority of Americans -- the Silent Majority, perhaps? -- are pragmatic, independent and un-partisan in their basic views. They are eclectic: "liberal" on some matters, "conservative" on others. They are not slaves to that hobgoblin of small minds, consistency.

Perhaps the public at large is not beholden to one view but the MSM and liberal academia and shadow government that seeks to govern through unelected offices, the judiciary, and State Department march in lockstep.

I’m stil waiting for someone at the LATTE Times to point out the lies of the Green Menace with their “man made global warming scare”.

There are cracks in the facade (Ted Danson admitted he lied, er used “hyperbole” when he said 20 years ago that our oceans would be dead in 20 years).

You missed the tagline:

"Dick Meyer is the editorial director of Digital Media for National Public Radio and the author of "Why We Hate Us: American Discontent in the New Millennium."

Ah yes, taxpayer funded agitprop People's Radio NPR. "Why We Hate Us: American Discontent in the New Millennium"

Searching for other related threads on FR I found:

No Game for a Family (Washington Post December 22, 2007 Dick Meyer)

I went to my last professional football game this month. My son and I braved frigid, remote FedEx Field to see our beloved Chicago Bears humiliated 24-16 by the struggling Washington Redskins. It wasn't the depth of our despair that will keep us away from football stadiums but the depravity of the fans...depravity is a strong word. But what better describes drunken adult men, egged on by other grown beer-swillers, belly-shouting the most spectacular obscenities imaginable as they stand next to a 13-year-old boy? Every play was a competition to produce a more vile insult or a different suggestion about which body part might be stuffed up which orifice. When the Redskins scored their first touchdown, four young women...turned around and did a little stripper's dance that made my son blush as I cringed...

Sounds like he may be disappointed where the culture has headed too. America wasn't like this in our shameful past. Y'see, we need to embrace CHANGE.

Wonder what he wrote about MTV-SeeBS-Viacommie's planned "wardrobe malfunction" to showcase Janet Jackson's mutilated nipple at the SeeBS Superbowl halftime show and the FCC flip flop over the fine.

More moronity here...

"Am I delighted to see Rush Limbaugh attacked, ridiculed and forced out of his ESPN gig? Absolutely. Justice is being served."

"Gunning Down The 2nd Amendment “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” Most Americans think that the Second Amendment of the Constitution provides individual citizens the right to have guns. (Which is not to say that most Americans believe that there should be a right to keep arms.) Very, very few judges, prosecutors or government lawyers over the past 60 years (at least)have officially taken the position that an individual right to own guns exists."

"... in some smoke-filled room, or at least a laptop filled room, nervous Democratic opposition researchers are trying to connect the Foley-Vitter-Craig dots. Because only a nit-wit could believe that three very sordid scandals could scourge the GOP in one session of Congress by sheer coincidence. Democrats do not believe in a God that generous."

No. NOTHING extreme in this doofus' views.
