If there's any good news coming out of Oakland's City Hall right now, we're having trouble finding it.
The city faces a deficit that could exceed $50 million. Recently outsted city manager Deborah Edgerly is being investigated by the FBI for allegations of fraud and nepotism. City officials can't account for millions of dollars that have disappeared from the city's reserve funds. And as Oakland's already sky-high crime rates shift out of lower-income communities and into the city's restaurants and nail salons, city officials look not just negligent but downright clueless. (Which is something that those lower-income communities might have always claimed.)
There are many failures that led to Oakland's desperate situation. But is there any hope of fixing it?
That depends on how committed the city's current leaderss turn out to be. Mayor Ron Dellums' performance has verged on paralysis for most of his two years in office. Given his pitiful response to the robberies at a press conference this week - "The community needs to step up," he said - it's clear that he's not going to be the leader that Oakland needs.

It's Grady!
Oakland deserves the government that it elected.
Liberals elect scum, end up living in cesspools and then act befuddled.
Karma punishes the intentionally stupid.
The Mayor and LEO leadership of Oakland cannot do anything about crime for fear of alienating their voting block.
What you have is the same thing you have in Detroit, Washington DC - an incompetent kleptocracy built upon affirmative action.
