High Anxiety in the Mile High City
New York Times ^ | 8/27/08 | MAUREEN DOWD

Posted on 08/26/2008 10:31:05 PM PDT by Danae

By MAUREEN DOWD DENVER I’ve been to a lot of conventions, and there’s always something gratifyingly weird that happens. +++Snip+++ But this Democratic convention has a vibe so weird and jittery, so at odds with the early thrilling, fairy dust feel of the Obama revolution, that I had to consult Mike Murphy, the peppery Republican strategist and former McCain guru. “What is that feeling in the air?” I asked him. “Submerged hate,” he promptly replied. ++++snip++++

She thanked her “sisterhood of the traveling pantsuits,” and slyly noted that Obama would enact her health care plan rather than his. ++++snip++++ Afterward, some of her supporters began crying, as they were interviewed by reporters, saying that her speech had proved that she would make a better president than Obama. Ed Rendell, the governor of Pennsylvania, compared Obama to the passive-aggressive Adlai Stevenson and told The Washington Post that Obama gives six-minute answers and “is not exactly the easiest guy in the world to identify with.” Obama’s pacification of Bill made his supporters depressed and anxious that he was going to be a weaker candidate than they had hoped and fearful that, as in Obama’s favorite movie, “The Godfather,” every time Democrats try to get away, the Clintons pull them back in. And Democrats have begun internalizing the criticisms of Hillary and John McCain about Obama’s rock-star prowess, ...

+++snip+++ They wondered why he wasn’t wearing a tie, fearing he looked too young, and second-guessed Michelle’s green dress, wondering if it clashed with the blue stage, and fretted that there wasn’t a speaker Monday night attacking McCain and yelling about gas prices. “I’m telling you, man,” said one top Democrat, “it’s something about our party, the shtetl mentality.”

Shtetl - A shtetl (Yiddish: שטעטל, diminutive form of Yiddish shtot שטאָט, "town", pronounced very similarly to the South German diminutive "Städtle", "little town") was typically a small town with a large Jewish population in pre-Holocaust Central and Eastern Europe.

Democrats don't know a DAMN thing about what they are saying! It’s just ludicrous. This whole article is schizophrenic. So in a sense it fits perfectly with the reality that is the DNC.

Maybe she misheard and it was "Spätzle"..."little late ones," as in "day late and a dollar short"... :-)

Anybody catch the 2-second shot of Michelle during Hillary’s speech?? She was literally burning with hatred. They got the camera off her immediately and went back to the happy old fat women clapping for their queen.

Oh yeah, I caught that too.

Her nonverbal cues were very, very telling indeed.

Was the Dim lunatic perhaps alluding to the fact that his party is to “small town”? That they can't thing “big picture” enough? Not to ascribe any semblance of intellect, I'm just trying to understand an otherwise stupid remark. LOL!

Even MoDo is starting to get it. Maybe she's even trying to set the stage for a defeat. If they pin this loss on Hillary, I think she can kiss her political career goodbye—and that seems to be what they are doing. They still don't realize that Obama is just a BAD candidate, much too socialist for most of the country.

Perhaps McCain, instead of dwelling on the inexperience issue so much, should hammer Obama on his nanny state policies. After all, Obama won't be an “inexperienced” neophyte forever and, with his youth, he could be a candidate for a lot of years!

Oh I wish I could have seen that.

You know what, BO is a radical but his wife is even more so. I believe she was the one that kept them in that church all those years and I believe she put her foot down and told him no way in hell are you going to choose that witch Hillary for VP. She's got the balls and calls the shots--unfortunately she calls them as well as Hillary did with Bill presidency. Bill probably had enough testicular fortitude not to listen to Hill all the time. BO is a total wussy.

This article is full of little gems.

Wasn’t Maureen the one Obama went after because he was mad she noted something about his ears? I don’t think she’s forgotten.

Isn’t there a saying never get into a fight with someone who buys ink by the gallon?

“At a meeting of the Democratic women’s caucus Tuesday, 74-year-old Carol Anderson of Vancouver, Wash., a former Hillary volunteer, stood in the back of the room in a Hillary T-shirt and hat signed by Hillary and “Nobama” button and booed every time any of the women speakers mentioned Obama’s name.”

“She’s voting for McCain and had nothing nice to say about the Obamas.”

Yes. I saw that look before the speech and during the second half. If looks would kill-Hilliary would be dead. I have zero tolerance for Mrs. Obama and her husband.

They always play the race card.

It’s not their fault for “playing the race card” it is our fault for letting it work. (Our being white folk).

Racism. Ok, I am Irish, meaning REAL freakin white. I was born in Honolulu Hawaii in 1969. I KNOW racism from the side of the victim. That being said, you don’t see me whining about racism! I am here to tell you, ANYONE who whines about Racism IS a racist!. By DEFINATION. So all you black people out there whining about how bad you had it, get over it and make your life what YOU want it to be. Stop wasting your own time and everyone else’s with your bitching, moaning, blame, and all that other irresponsible crap. The ONLY person responsible for how you live your life is YOU. I don’t whine about being discriminated against, I succeeded in life. I didn’t wallow in the horrible treatment of my Japanese and Philippino teachers, I succeeded in spite of their abuse. I moved on, so too should all those who whine about racism, the true racists.

I do not tolerate anyone who plays the race card. I have a new neighbor who pulled that crap on me. She said we are a mutiracial racial couple. No shit sherlock. I am thinking damn what is her point? Like I cannot see she is black. I cannot see her husbamd is not? I have steered clear of this woman. They are rent to own types. In 61 years I had never had the race card pulled before. I hate it. It is a damn excuse for playing victim.
