Barack Obama has problems with Jewish seniors in Florida, say two Democratic lawmakers there.
Florida state Sen. Nan Rich told JTA that Obama surrogates have been shocked by the hostility they have encountered at condominiums in her area aimed at their candidate.
Steve Geller, who serves as the Democratic minority leader in the Florida state Senate and represents parts of Broward County, said he was nearly chased out of the "condos" -- shorthand for retirement communities -- when he said he backed Obama.
"I've noticed almost a mob mentality," Geller said. "I can change people's minds in a group of five or 10. When there's 300 people in the room, they feed off each other and don't want really to listen to us.
Both lawmakers made their remarks Monday in Denver following a panel discussion on the Jewish vote held in conjunction with the Democratic convention.
U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) expressed confidence that Obama would do well with Jewish voters in the end, but needed to spend more time in the Sunshine State. She said more face-to-face encounters with Obama are needed.
"He needs to come down and have bagels and cream cheese in the condos and he will be fine," Wasserman Schultz said.
No doubt. Good analogy. I think November is going to be a blowout for McCain.
These Floridiot Dem politicians have zero zip nada understanding of the race wars that went on in Northeastern cities between the Jewish and the black communities from the 1910’s to the 1970’s.
The Jewish retiree community in Florida that are living on fixed incomes are most likely to have 1st hand street view memories of those events, starting in the 1890’s (in German Harlem and elsewhere) and culminating in 1st ring inner suburbs in the 1980’s.
“”He needs to come down and have bagels and cream cheese in the condos and he will be fine,” Wasserman Schultz said.”
HOW insulting and condescending!!!
As far as “mob mentality” (quoted previously in the article) - anyone watch BHO’s “rallies”???
My parents live in Boca and many of their neighbors will not admit to voting for McCain come November, but were angered by his victory over their chosen candidate (Hillary!).
Now if only they would toss their horrific ultraleftist Jewish rodents for sensible Jewish Conservative Republicans...
Of course. Obama is going to visit, they’ll chat, he’ll fix them a bagel with a schmear and they’ll kibbitz and everything will be fine. Right Debbie?
I don’t think so!
“Especially since they have been voting Democrat since the time of Moses.”
well....it does say a lot, doesn’t it?
also interesting how the MSM (print and otherwise) have so long loved to talk about “Obamacans” (repubs for obama) when, in fact, the “dirty little secret” is the very large (and growing) number of dems that say they’ll vote for McCain, NOT BHO.
” but were angered by his victory over their chosen candidate (Hillary!).”
you mean BHO’s victory over Hillary, right? Hence, a lot of them will vote for McCain?
You know, of course, that the Obama crowd will call this racism (not discernment). ;-)
Hussein ain't got a prayer.
“You know, of course, that the Obama crowd will call this racism”
They call everything racism - truly. Chronic whining doesn’t become the leader of the (still) most powerful nation on earth.
Amen!
Nah. Wexler would get reelected by the Bocacrats if he grew a Charlie Chaplin moustache, flew the swastika, and passed pork as veal at his family seder.
As I stated upthread, most of my parents neighbors won't admit to voting for McCain yet, but I'm sure many will.
I'm shocked that the gays aren't going for Obama. He is the gayest looking and acting candidate since James Buchanan. Then again, gays prefer their ideal man "rugged" and their women mercurial.
I’ve spoken to 10 Jewish elderly in FL and only one comes out and says she votes Obama. The rest are split between John McCain and not voting or maybe voting McCain
And the collard greens... can’t forget them, otherwise it just doesn’t work.
You're right. It just shows how blase and condescending the 'Rats have been for years, taking this demographic for granted. Hopefully, all the bagels and cream cheese on the planet can't compensate for these voters' valid concerns about "Osama" Obama's Arab terrorist pals and what it may portend for the future of Israel.
