John Edwards, the Democrats 2004 vice presidential nominee who unsuccessfully sought the top spot on the partys ticket this year, is like the man who never was among party leaders gathered in Denver.
Edwards, the one-term North Carolina senator whose 2008 candidacy ended in January, admitted in early August, after a lot of tabloid disclosures, that he had been carrying on an extramarital affair with a campaign aide even as his wife, Elizabeth, was battling cancer. He also admitted that he had repeatedly lied about it. It still isnt clear if he fathered an out of wedlock child during the affair, but he says he is willing to take a paternity test to prove he isnt the babys father.
Edwards isnt in Denver for the convention, and thats just fine with a lot of people who are still smarting from the scandal. The ex-senators name hasnt been mentioned in the convention proceedings. Many seem to think that the last thing a party trying to heal itself after a tough nomination battle between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton needs is the distraction that Edwards presence or even any discussion of him would create.
Sen. Ken Salazar , D-Colo., said he thought it was appropriate that Edwards is staying away.
What John Edwards did was inexcusable and wrong, Salazar said. From my point of view as one of the hosts of this convention, Im glad hes not here.
Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., one of the relative handful of congressional members who endorsed Edwards 2008 presidential candidacy, said he was shocked, appalled, upset and disgraced over Edwards conduct, then said he didnt want to talk about the subject any further.
When a reporter asked House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer , D-Md., as he was racing to an

Well, maybe in 12-16 years he too can have a speaking gig?
This is how lowly it’s gotten, Breck Girl. Even your scumbag Democrats want to disown you.
LOL . . . Edwards, BIden, Michelle, Bill & Hillary, Baracky . . this is almost too much material for me to take.
I don’t feel sorry for him at all. I can’t believe they decided to go on with the presidential campaign after he had the affair, especially since his wife knew.
Can’t see why Edwards is not there . . . the former governor of Arkansas was a rapist, sexual preditor, sexual pervert, hid his medical records, and had oral sex with an intern in the White House and yet that clown is a celebrity. Doesn’t make sense, does it?
One thing is certain. Rep. James P. McGovern, D-Mass. is a moron.
That former Arkansas governor was a better liar.
Yep, I don’t get it either. Liberals generally have no moral outrage about sexual matters. They are in favor of sex with any number of partners, any gender of partners, and don’t consider a marriage license or wedding vows as important. So a matter of consensual sex with consenting adults such as John Edwards’ case should not shock and sadden any Democrats, if they are consistent with their own standards.
Because of the ‘I Feel Pretty’ grooming video.
He certainly has an unconventional view of honesty...
Hey. it’s just about sex!
So why are they letting Bill Clinton speak?
Yeah, and I am The Incredible Hulk!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes. Another sea change for feminists. Sooo.... why’s Bill Clinton there???
All very confusing
I guess they forgot about Juanita Broaddrick.
Just like they forgot about Mary Jo Kopechne and Chappaquiddick.
Nice... :(
After all - It's only a one week convention.
How many speeches from lying adulterers can they fit in?

now that’s rich!
but hillary will be speaking tonight,
and while feminists approved of her helping bill dispose of his women,
the same feminists dislike mrs edwards!
