We all knew Barack Obama is a Sox fan, but he took it a bit further in an ESPN interview.
Obama joked about the stereotype of Cubs fans, who probably are tired of being described as partying people-watchers instead of serious fans.
"You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there,'' Obama said, according to ESPN transcripts. "People aren't watching the game. It's not serious. White Sox, that's baseball."
The interview took place Wednesday in Greensboro, N.C., and aired on SportsCenter Monday night. Here are excerpts of Obama's comments to ESPN's Stuart Scott. The interview will be rebroadcast during today's 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. SportsCenters:
Favorite athlete: "My favorite player when I was a kid was Dr. J. He had those old Nets shorts with the socks up to here."
If he had to pick an athlete as VP: "I'm a Chicago guy, so I'm thinking Walter Payton. 'Sweetness.' That guy had durability -- he could block as well as run."
Baseball's steroid hearings: "I'd like to see the baseball commissioner handle this without Congress being involved. We've got a lot of stuff on our plate."
Who he'd root for in a Cubs-Sox World Series: "Oh, that's easy. White Sox. . . . You go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer, beautiful people up there. People aren't watching the game. It's not serious. White Sox, that's baseball. South Side."
Election Day is less than a week after the end of the WS (depending on how many games it goes). Seeing the Cubs sweep the WSox and then McCain sweep B-HO would be a week to remember.
You mean Obama doesn’t want to ban baseball? I mean, it’s way too American. Make ‘em play soccer instead.
After he said “Southside.”, did Obama flash the Gangster Disciples gang sign?
Sun-Times:
“In 1992 the Gangster Disciples took a direct role in the political process when Gangster Disciples leader Larry Hoover helped create 21st Century V.O.T.E., a local political action organization that unsuccessfully worked to have Hoover paroled from prison.
The group won the support of many local politicians, including former Mayor Eugene Sawyer and former state Rep. Coy Pugh. In 1995, the group nearly scored a $45,000 deal to recruit minority workers for a CTA project, but it was scuttled by an opposing alderman.
The group ran its own candidates—former Disciples enforcer Wallace “Gator’’ Bradley and former gang leader Hal Baskin—against machine-backed aldermanic candidates. When they went to Washington to discuss a crime bill, Bradley was photographed in the White House with President Clinton and Jackson.”

OH TOMKOW look what Magic Barry saying
Obama is a narcissist's narcissist.
There’s a very real possibility of a Cubs/ Sox World Series, and I’ll laugh my ass of if the Cubs win.
Funny, yesterday was the first I heard that Obama is a Sox fan. I suppose I could’ve missed it, but I am a political junkie from Chicago.
The general manager is an ass clown as well, the loudmouth chip on his shoulder Ken Williams.
It is embarrassing that BHO is a fan of the beloved “sout’siters”
Obama is correct about the Cubs.
Even a stopped clock is correct twice a day!
That’s what I was figuring: why would he insult Cubs fans? He had the gay vote all locked up.
Obama is Obama fan nothing more or less
“Obama joked about the stereotype of Cubs fans,”
More typical white people?
Last week's Greeley IDs The Bad Guys: Veterans, Crackers, Sox Fans.
Obama should phone Bartman and ask him just how “serious” Cubs fans can be! GO Cubs!
Cubs fans won’t like this! I just passed it along to all the people I know who are die hard CUBS fans! There go a ton of votes!!!
Took the words out of my mouth.
