A North Texas family is mourning the loss of two of their pets. The nine-month-old pit bulls were shot and killed by a neighbor who says it was self defense.
The shooting happened in a neighborhood off Ten Mile Bridge Road in northwest Fort Worth.
The neighbors never had any problems before. But that all changed over the weekend.
The man who pulled the trigger says he didn't have any choice. But the dogs' owners disagree.
Kristopher Harrison has a six-year-old daughter. He says that's why he was upset when two pit bulls wandered into his backyard Saturday afternoon.
Harrison says he told his next door neighbors, if it happened again, he would shoot the dogs. And that's exactly what he did around 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
Harrison says he and a friend were taking a break from watching the Olympics when the nine-month-old dog named 'Scarface' crawled under the fence. Harrison had his shotgun with him, so he says he shot the dog and the dog's sister, 'Lady'.
"I wish he just would have went in the house and would have came and told me instead of retaliating that way," dog owner Shaylen Ross said.
One of the animals was found dead in Harrison's backyard. The other was found dead in its own backyard.
"He was showing his teeth, growling and he was coming at me," Harrison explained. "The second dog, I didn't know. I didn't think I was going to have to shoot him, because he seemed a little hesitant. But then he looked at the hole in the fence. I thought he was going to go back under, then he turned around and started coming at me and that's when I shot him."
Fort Worth Police are reviewing the case, but they say if the dogs were in the neighbor's yard when they were shot it's unlikely that any charges will be filed.
X2
I have no problems with dogs. I have four of my own, a Lab, a Chihuahua, a Lhasa Apso-Shitzu mix and a mongrel. The only dogs I have problems with are the Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios and such as those. The dogs next door are purposefully trained to be vicious by their owner. While my fence is 5’, his fence across his yard from his house connecting to my fence is only 4’ tall. Those dogs can easily jump that fence. I fear that one day a kid from the neighbor hood will be running down the street and the dogs will jump that fence and attack. A couple of summers ago, about a half mile from here , a female jogger was attacked in just that fashion. She was jogging down the sidewalk and a Pit Bull inside a fenced yard jumped the fence and attacked her. The authorities destroyed the dog and the woman had to have surgery on her arm..............
And you have to gall to call someone else reckless. Wow. Isn't it better for those armed to have some idea of why and what they are shooting at? We're not talking the streets of Sadr City, after all.
the sad little secret is that any dog breed is a potential threat to humans.....what people tend to forget is that they are animals, act like animals and will behave like animals...training can help, and good environment will help, but eventually every animal will unexpectedly act irrationally, and if you allow your animal to run free, it will act irrationally out of the owners sight...then the owner will say “ not my dog “.... my favorite one is when the owner says “ my dog does not bite “, i then ask the owner, “ does the dog know that? “....
“callous disregard for life & propertly and your deadly discharge of a weapon and respond appropriately. “
Sure you would. It seems you are the one with the anger control issue and wanting to prove a point and willing to threaten human life to do it. We’ll look for you on “cops”.
But every dog-owner will be viewed as if they are possibly you. A murderer, a killer.
By your own words you are willing to murder.
There's no death penalty for killing a man's dog. But you would be proud to do so. That's makes you a murderer-wanna-be.
I suggest you take a break. Find some sanity, somehow.
But evidently the dead ones were not. Yes -- their owner was irresponsible and I hope he is fined for the danger he introduced into his neighborhood.
Yep.
At 4 A.M.?
“Ahhh, and there it is. Assuming Wyatt Earp’s version of events is the truth (and I’m not buying it), your “burden” justifies killing two animals. Then my “burden” over the loss of my animals and my fear for my life justifies my appropriate reaction when confronting a deadly force situation.”
Again, you are deflecting the pet’s owner from taking reasonable care to protect his own pets. If the owner hadn’t been an irresponsible dirtbag, he would have done something about them before it came to this.
Your silliness in attempting to justify that exposes you to questions showing your true ideals.
For example, if you hear your neighbor shooting at something, is it your contention that you are justified in shooting him?
What if he’s a cop that just killed two men trying to break into your house?
What if two dogs (not necessarily YOURS) were attacking?
What if he was lighting off fireworks, and in your zeal to prove how much of an “expert” in shooting you are, you thought they were gunshots?
It does not matter that pit bulls “can be” gentle around kids, not when the very same pit bulls can also suddenly attack with deadly force and instantly kill a child.
And one more thing.
You (or one in lockstep with you on this) state that by telling the owner he would shoot the dog if they came on his property again, that he obviously wanted to do it from the start.
There are many laws in the land. They explain the penalties for violating those laws. Does that mean the police are “planning from the start to get you?” (Notwithstanding the stupidity of the last few years)
If you break into my house, and I have a sign posted at my door that I will meet you with force, does that mean that I was planning all along to attack you?
A warning is not the same as a threat.
omgrotf
Shovel it up and throw it onto their porch.
If they ask, let them know.
This young girl was the daughter of a man that worked with my son.
Girl mauled, killed by pit bulls
"The girl attempted to escape by climbing a tree but the dogs pulled her down and dragged her to a ditch in the yard, according to one witness."
Killer pit bulls'owner sent to prison
Doesn't bring the little girl back.
Are you of that group that says pit bulls are inherently dangerous?
How does the reference to Obama fit in with this story? Oh, he’s black. Therefore he is a party to the ‘horrific behavior of certain elements in our society’, specifically dogfighting? What, no space in your ugly comments about jazz, crack, and the rape of white women, with a vague reference to Obama?
You sound like you from the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore circa 1985 (the year I moved in) just in time for the yoots to firebomb a black family out of the neighborhood.
Bad think about that, is that the cops might have gone to the wrong address, in which case the guy’s young daughter would have been thrown to the floor and handcuffed before they checked the address.
From the story:
“I wish he just would have went in the house and would have came and told me instead of retaliating that way,” dog owner Shaylen Ross said.”
Why? He already DID tell you once. You didn’t do anything about it then, what reasonable person could have suspected you would have done something the second time?
Yes. They are unpredictable ANIMALS with the power to kill humans and other pets. Pit bull owners who refuse to acknowledge that fact are also dangerous to their families and neighbors.
