The Racism Excuse
Wall Street Journal ^ | 26 August 2008 | Unsigned

Things are supposed to be looking rosy for Democrats this November. But in case Barack Obama loses the Presidency, an excuse is all ready to go: America's too racist to elect a black man.

This narrative has gained traction with the Democratic Presidential candidate's recent setbacks in the polls. We hear it from the convention crowd in Denver and liberals in the press. The older, poorer, white, often Hillary voter who sounds ambivalent about the Obama coronation is an enticing scapegoat.

...There are Americans who judge politicians by their race, or gender, or religion; Mr. Obama will certainly carry the black vote in November because he is black and because he is a Democrat. But we reckon that a scant number of voters are motivated by racism, and that number's growing smaller by the day. Virginia elected a black Governor two decades ago, and Illinois has had two black Senators. America has had two black Secretaries of State, and major corporations are run by black CEOs. No other Western democracy has done as well at opening up political, business and other arenas to minorities.

Mr. Obama's descent from his Icarusian heights earlier this spring reflects a shift in this race that has nothing to do with race. A skin-deep Obamamania had energized the country. Now that's giving way to serious consideration of credentials and policy substance.

As a matter of sober fact, many Americans look at the junior Senator from Illinois and worry, as his Democratic Vice Presidential candidate pointed out last year, that he isn't "ready" for the job. Does this mean that anyone who agrees with Joe Biden's previous assessment is a racist? Do Democrats really think so little of their fellow Americans?

If race is an issue, why would his poll numbers have started out as high as they did? Have people become more racist since Obama was way ahead of McCain?

A good article. Candidate Obama is not and never will be, ready for the big chair.

Keep the ‘Change’

Wait until Biden spins his comments to, “he’s not ready because da man hasn’t let him have the experience he needs.”

....and it is because of his politics-—not his race. Just more delusional Dem poop. Spin it and then spin it some more.

In 2006, they thought they won because Americans were sick of the Iraq War and the fact that Americans were for immigration reform.

Yep, just look at the above article in the NYT “The dog isn’t barking” —that entire article is about how racists Americans are.

From conversations I've had, things I've read, and things I've seen on TV, it seems pretty clear that a certain segment of our population is casting their vote based almost solely on the candidate's skin color.

Yes, blacks are tightly focused on skin color, and will be (mostly) voting accordingly.

But every white person I've talked to who opposes Obama is doing so strictly on the basis of his abhorrent policies.

My long standing belief is that white racism is truly insignificant in our society today. But black racism is one of the biggest problem facing blacks today.

Isn't it something? If Obama can't win they will blame it on racism.

If McCain doesn't win can we use the same excuse?

These people are biting off their nose to spite their face. It's not going to help them by forwarding that argument. It will just give those of us further resolve to keep Barry as far away from the White House as possible.

I really wonder if Barry has any brains at all?

And this is what?

In a Presidential election, I would never vot for Barak Obama, a black man. In a Presidential election I woulc never vote for Hillary Clinton, a woman.

In a Presidential election I’d rush to the polls, I’d run you over to vote for Condileeza Rice.

Am I a racist because I would never vote for a liberal socialist who will ruin the economy and allow Iran to achieve nuclear weaponry to pass on to terrorists in which to attack America? Am I a sexiest becuase I will not vote for a dishonest, criminal woman?

I’m actually being rubbed raw over being accused of being a racist because I treat dirt bag blacks the same way I treat dirt bag whites.

The media is actually continually practices racism with their “black vs white” polls. So much for being color blind.
bunch of damn, dirty racists!

I’ve been saying this was the lib plan all along, from the first time the academics came out and said that, based on history, this should be a Dem landslide. They were setting things up for the claim that the only reason Barack loses is racism.

LOL...

What's the feeling over there? Do they see how sophomoric Obama is?

I still can't believe he's gotten to this point. He has no practical experience in executive or domestic policy.

His version of world affairs is frightening.

What galls me most is that the country that has given him such status is not one he's proud to be associated with.

I shake my head in wonder.

Put Obama in white skin and we would not know his name. He has benifited tremendously due to his race. That alone will not get him elected to the most powerful position on earth. He is wrong on virtually every issue because he looks
at the world through those red tinted Marxist glasses.

Well, that's the way it's supposed to work, but it's gotten him this far and there definitely ARE people who can't see past color - no matter what side they are looking at it from.

All those white dems that didn’t vote for Alan Keys in 2004 are racist.

That means over 50,000,000 white dems in this country are bigots.

I’m making this broad statement because there is no room for something as unimportant as “politics”. I scoff at the very notion that they disagreed with his politics. They didn’t want to vote for him simply because he is black.

I’m obviously going to throw aside everything I’ve held important in my selection of whom I vote for, from not wishing to pay higher taxes, to a strong national defense, to support of the 2nd Amendment. I MUST vote for a candidate based simply on the color of his skin and NOT the content of his character (with apologies to Dr King).

I’m sorry for not realizing Dr. King’s dream in my lifetime, as we must put aside petty POLITICAL differences, and vote for the candidate based on his color and or race.

(/Sarcasm)

Most Americans are not willing to vote for an African American for president.

Most Americans would be willing to vote for an American that happens to be black as long as he is right of center.

Hypenated Americans will never be able to unite all Americans. They have chosen to put their race first.
