Sources: McCain May Announce VP Choice Before Friday
Fox News ^ | August 25, 2008

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain may announce his choice for a running mate earlier than expected, sources told FOX News on Monday.

McCain had previously said he would announce his vice presidential pick on Friday and would appear with that individual at a rally in Dayton, Ohio, following the announcement. Friday is McCain’s 72nd birthday.

But sources close to McCain’s campaign told FOX News that his decision may come sooner than that — possibly on Thursday, when Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination at Invesco field in Denver, Colo.

McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds diminished the news.

“I wouldn’t much weight into reports that there are windows of possibility,” he said.

Several names have come up repeatedly as McCain’s possible running mate, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and, perhaps, Democrat-turned-independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. Also named is Gen. David Petraeus, the incoming head of Central Command.

I would also be on board with that selection.

The McCain List.

Take it for what it's worth, a rumor.

“Time to start thinking about retiring abroad in 20 years, conditions should be pretty frightening by then.”

Why wait 20 years? If McCain picks Romney, I should think you would want to leave this next Saturday. Buy your ticket now so you get the best deal. I hear Timbuktu is nice this time of year.

Might be Hutchinson.

Come on, she's from TX. And so is Bush. McCain is distancing from anything Bush. We don't want her anyway, she is pro illegals just like he is.

If he wants to lose, McCain will take Romney.

Hopefully, he’s not that stupid.

Good chance McCain will take Mike Huckabee.

*green to high level campaigning and wouldn’t have much time to figure out how that works.*

What do you think Petraeus has been doing with his people to people both with Iraqis, various factions, and dealing with Senators who don’t have a clue.

I guess you don’t remember Gen. Eisenhower a two term President

Unfortunately, if Slick Willard is 100% bad, Huckster is 99%. The Southern-fried *omney. He set back the GOP in Arkansas 40 years.

Yes, I believe it will be Romney, despite McCain’s dislike for him, his variable principles, and his Mormonism.

I haven't read all of the replies yet...but I really hope McCain doesn't announce on the eve of Obama’s “big moment.” Kerry and Edwards did that drunken caterwauling at the train stop on the last night of the RNC in 2004 to try to steal some limelight away and all performances by them aside, the timing looked desperate and tacky.

i would question any conservatives judgement on accepting the nomination. the best thing mccain could do is drop out. I will not vote for mccain’s vp. You know you wont hear stories of him fighting with his conservative vp, you will see his conservative carry water for him to Rush, it will be sickening to see a conservative stoop to his level. but then I see conservative voters are sooooooooooo scared to see obama ruin the country they will let mccain do it. Mccain is very slightly increasing the temperture of the water bringing it to a boil once the figure it out its too late. With obama it will be fast and might finally jostle some of these spineless people into action.

GOP war room - Mitt Romney and other Republican heavy-weights coming to Denver to speak out against Obama.

Romney will speak at a press conference Tuesday afternoon at the temporary GOP office near the Pepsi Center, the Republican National Committee announced this afternoon.

He will be joined by U.S. House Republican Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia, U.S. Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart of Florida, and U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee.

They will focus on economic issues. The press conference is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. at the GOP’s Speer Boulevard office.

2. Petraeus is a soldier, and their vote already belongs to McCain. not this soldier and 2 others that i know, we are voting for CHuck Baldwin. We respect mccains sacrifice and service however most good he has done has been years ago.
