Sources: McCain May Announce VP Choice Before Friday
Fox News ^ | August 25, 2008

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain may announce his choice for a running mate earlier than expected, sources told FOX News on Monday.

McCain had previously said he would announce his vice presidential pick on Friday and would appear with that individual at a rally in Dayton, Ohio, following the announcement. Friday is McCain’s 72nd birthday.

But sources close to McCain’s campaign told FOX News that his decision may come sooner than that — possibly on Thursday, when Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination at Invesco field in Denver, Colo.

McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds diminished the news.

“I wouldn’t much weight into reports that there are windows of possibility,” he said.

Several names have come up repeatedly as McCain’s possible running mate, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and, perhaps, Democrat-turned-independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. Also named is Gen. David Petraeus, the incoming head of Central Command.

I heard two things this morning that I didn’t realize until now:

1) McCain and Kay Bailey basically hate each others guts, and

2) With Stevens winning the primary in Alaska yesterday, coupled with Palin going through a completely B S “ethics investigation,” it will next to impossible for McCain to nominate the Alaska governor as his running mate.

I was really hoping for a female VP nominee, but it look like we are SOL, damn!

If it’s not going to be Palin or Kay Bailey I hope it’s John Kasich or Chris Cox.

If he announces before the end of the dem convention, I’m guessing the VP choice is a woman.

“Well, I stand by my tagline. Although Cantor would be cool, too.”

And therein lies part of the appeal for Cantor: conservative for the base, with no negatives to piss off some part of the base.

Huckster or Romney could be used in ads just like Hillary was used to such great effect.

Easy as pie!

McCain selects a pro life VP and wins *OR*
McCain selects a pro infanticide VP and gets obliterated.

Between the socialists, morons, perverts, and thieves on the Democrat side...

The more votes McCain gets the more likely he will win. The fewer votes he gets, the more likely Obama will win.

Lol - are ya sure about that, Nostradamus?

:-D

It relates to a 3rd party vote, but yes, it is a simple mathematical observation.

I know he has said he wasn’t interested in the past, but I’d sure love to Haley Barbour accept the nomination.

He has executive experience, and because he led the RNC for a period of time, we know he can raise money.

Since Virginia is a battle-ground State - perhaps former VA Governor George Allen?
Governor

Governor Allen visiting the USS George Washington in July 1996.In November 1993, Allen was elected the 67th Governor of Virginia, serving from 1994 to 1998. His opponent in the 1993 election, Attorney General Mary Sue Terry, had an early 29-point lead in public opinion polls[10] and a million-dollar fundraising advantage.[11] However, Allen struck a hot button with voters across party and racial lines with his campaign proposal to abolish parole. This response to a surge of crime in the state connected with voters, in contrast to Terry’s proposal to increase gun control as a remedy.[12][verification needed] Allen overcame the deficit and won with 58.3% of the vote, the largest margin (+17.4 points) since Albertis S. Harrison Jr. defeated H. Clyde Pearson with a margin of +27.7 points in 1961.[13][14]

Allen could not run for re-election because Virginia’s constitution does not allow a governor to succeed himself; as of 2007 Virginia is the only state that has such a provision.[15]

McCain’s VP pick will truly be a non-conservative, such as Mitt Romney. McCain is still a maverick politician, and not a conservative politician. I’m still surprised at how many conservatives don’t see McCain for who he really is as a politician! I truly want to be wrong about all of this, but I don’t believe that I am.

Most Freepers here only support him grudgingly. I’m having no trouble keeping my enthusiasm under control. But I’m still hopeful on the running mate.

I completely agree. He is my Gov and I am very grateful to him for what he has done here. I know what he has done so I don't hold his more recent political posturing against him one bit.

I picked Tim way back in February and was so confident that I made a wager with another FReeper so that if/when Tim gets picked they will have to go on 5 threads a day for a week and proclaim my greatness.

It is looking like I will collect =)

” This is a chance for the McCain team to build a bridge...will they do it? “

I seriously doubt it .
