Law enforcement authorities have arrested two men in connection with a possible assassination plot against Sen. Barack Obama at the Democratic Convention in Denver, CBS station KCNC-TV reported Monday.
Police in Aurora, Colo. made a routine traffic stop at 2:38 a.m. Sunday, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office. Two rifles were found in the car, along with methamphetamine. Another law enforcement source says he was told at least one of the rifles was a "sniper rifle."
A second source told CBS station KCNC-TV reporter Brian Maass that authorities told officers they are concerned they may have come upon a possible "assassination plot."
That arrest then led authorities to a second man staying at the Cherry Creek Hotel in Glendale, Colo. When authorities knocked on the man's door, they say he jumped out of his sixth floor window, landing on an awning and running from the scene. They say they soon found him with a broken ankle. He too was arrested.
Its unclear precisely why authorities suspect the men were targeting Barack Obama, but one of the officer's who was briefed says he was told at least one of the suspects made statements to that effect.
The Secret Service, ATF and the FBI are all involved in the investigation. A Secret Service spokesman says the agency is concerned by the proximity to the Democratic National Convention and the items found in the man's car.

Constitutionally speaking,
I have often wondered what would happen if:
in between the convention and the election,
a party’s candidate met with his demise, naturally or otherwise.
For instance, what would happen if a candidate for president
were killed in a plane crash the night before election day?
Is that why we do not “really” got to the polls to elect a president,
but actually we elect “electors” who must then elect a president?

But in Seattle they renamed what was first known as (the original!) Skid Road.

It is kinda ridiculous. You know there have been many ‘plots’ to assassinate President Bush over the last 8 years. The media never reports on them though and they are not leaked to the media!
Don’t get me wrong, if it was a legit threat to Obama, I am glad they caught them.
Look...if this dude wants to be President of the United States...he had better grow some stones and the media had better get a grip. He is going to be threatened and he is going to have to get on airplanes...(eye roll)

As a matter of fact you did leave something out...they were driving a gas guzzling Hummer loaded with Coors beer and KY bourbon.

Don't be so sure. Many ordinary bolt-action scoped rifles could be considered "sniper" rifles by anti-gunners, and probably soon will be.
The article posted mentions that an officer states one of the suspects made a statement the the effect of a possible plot against Obama. The phrasing of the sentence is awkward but it’s in there.
Maybe we’ll learn that this is mistake as early reports often are, but it really is news if a suspect pulled over in a car with rifles blurts out something suspicious re: Obama and the convention.
