U.S. to give Poland five C-130 Hercules planes
2008-08-26 00:06:58
WARSAW, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Poland will get from the United States five 40-year-old C-130 Hercules transport planes as part of allied assistance, Rzeczpospolita daily reported on Monday.
The first one is expected in Poland in October and the last one in 2012. 50 Polish pilots and technicians are being trained in the U.S. to service the planes.
According to the newspaper, the planes will be used for soldier and equipment transport for military missions. At present the Polish Air Forces use Spanish CASA C-295M which are not fit for long routes and the transport of heavy equipment.

Those Herkiebirds will serve you well.
I wonder if this reporter would say "50 year old B-52's" if we offered you folks some bombers.

Hopefully we're modifying them to the AC version first.

I’m sure that the “Spectre” package can be shipped to Poland separately. Just give ‘em instructions as to where to cut the holes to poke all the gun barrels through.

heh .... I wonder if some Eastern Block nations would like to buy a bunch of older B-52’s. Ivan would be staring at a half a dozen shotguns in his face.

As long as those planes don't have many cycles on them, and has been maintained, they will be fine.

C-130 Spooky.
I had a Vietnam vet once told me when he was in Nam one night, he saw a C-130 shooting at this mountain side... he said it was one of the most " wildest " things you ever saw with the bullet tracers.

You know, I’m not any kind of specialist on aviation.
But at the first sight that “40 years old “ seems to be ... well ... surprising.

They are almost certainly C-130E models that were just taken out of front-line service with the USAF. They’ll get a thorough inspection and overhaul and be good for years to come.

But at the first sight that 40 years old seems to be ... well ... surprising. Want to know a secret? Nearly everything we fly is 40+ years old. There are very few "new" airframes in operation.

But at the first sight that 40 years old seems to be ... well ... surprising. They're trying to insinuate that we're handing you old crappy aircraft. Nothing could be further from the truth. Those Hercules aircraft will last you decades if you care for them properly.
Now you need to talk to the Air Force about the AC package...

One night in between Quang Tri and Khe Sahn we were
said to be surrounded by a division. We were popping
those big mortars with flares that lit up 100 acres
like daytime, anyway a gunship was firing all around
our perimiter, scared the heck outta me,ya could feel
it not just hear it and it was impressive to see.
Weird how you can remember some things so clearly
after so long

You can thank God that, that C-130 was “ aloft “ in the air protecting you...... Chariots of fire.
I don't know if you remember some place in the Caribbean ( I am not sure if it was Granada ) when Reagan sent some of our troops there.
I saw this show about 10 years ago on one of those military history shows, but, in the show, they said this one C-130 was " aloft " and took out the enemy, and they didn't hear it .... all they know, the ammo was hitting them from the sky.
Correct me if I am wrong, but, the AC-130 can be 4 miles away aloft and still take out enemy positions.

I drove past D-M this last week.
USAF has a forrest of C130s sitting in mothball storage.
Give ‘em to someone who can use them.
Recent article seen on the milblogs told of a 1968 ‘Herk working in the ‘Stan these days. Last photo found on the web was from Plekiu RVN, also hauling ash and trash waaay back then.....
