The Constitutional Amendments appeared in the August 25, 2008 edition of the Tampa Tribune as a Legal Advertisement. A search of The Tampa Tribune website did not return any reference to this proposal in any news forum or article locally or nationally. Further, the referenced source for the proposed amendment is the Florida Legislature itself, with no signatories or sponsors listed anywhere on the original document. The Florida Legislature is stating it wishes not to have the right to prohibit illegal aliens from owning property in Florida. My hunch is the banks had something to do with this. Bank of America is big down here lending to illegals. What kind of precedent will this set for other states to follow?

Proposing an amendment to the State Constitution to delete provisions authorizing the Legislature to regulate or prohibit the ownership, inheritance, disposition, and possession of real property by aliens ineligible for citizenship.

More effort to destroy America from within.

The Mexican government doesn’t allow property ownership rights to legal immigrants. It is ludicrous that anyone in the U.S. is even considering giving illegals ownership rights.

We should have the same laws as Mexico....

Gringos cannot own land within 100 KM of the border or 50 KM of the ocean. And, if you are there illegally you cannot own anything.

"Aliens ineligible for citizenship" isn't just illegals. For example, it may apply to an alien here on a tourist visa or work visa isn't on the citizenship track, but I have no problem with them buying houses.

This is weird.

It looks like the FL constitution allows the legislature to prohibit illegals (and other unqualified aliens) from owning property but they’ve never passed any laws on the matter.

The proposed amendment deletes that provision from the constitution.

Since it needs 60% to pass anyhow, I doubt it will.

Just remember folks, since "All Peeples is Equals", therefore "All Peeples is Americans" whether they are here or not, therefore we have no right to have immigration laws and all borders of America are null and void.

And Invasion is now a civil right.

I don’t think your amendment will go anywhere..... Not that this has prevented illegal aliens from buying real estate in Florida

“I have no problem with them buying houses.”

Really? “them” as in illegal aliens? What role, if any, do you think doing so playing in the housing crisis? Are you (at least) opposed to them being here illegally? Are you opposed to them being employed illegally?

Subprime Mortgage Defaults Being Driven by Illegal Immigration?

Subprime mortgage loans are those granted to borrowers with less-than-perfect credit. Lenders typically charge higher interest rates to these subprime borrowers to compensate for potential losses.

Last week the first major subprime lender collapsed under the pressure from loan defaults. American Home Mortgage Investment Corp. sold nearly $60 billion dollars in loans to borrowers in 2006. They were forced to declare bankruptcy when they could no longer find Wall Street firms willing to invest in securities to back the loans they were making.

The failure of AMHMIC caused subprime concerns to spread to Alt-A mortgages, which are mortgage loans for people with good credit, but who do not want to nor have the means to verify income with tax forms and pay stubs. Alt-A loans made up 13% of all mortgage loans last year according to Inside Mortgage Finance.

When discussing the current mortgage loan crisis before Congress, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said on July 18, 2007 that “rising delinquencies and foreclosures are creating personal, economic and social distress for many homeowners and communities — problems that likely will get worse before they get better.”

“David Olson, president of Wholesale Access Mortgage Research & Consulting Inc. in Columbia, Maryland, is blunt about his current outlook. He says a third of the U.S. home-loan industry will disappear.” [2]

The economic impact of this crisis is obvious. Lenders are running short on cash with which to make future loans and are being forced to borrow money from European banks. Hedge funds investing in mortgage securities are being frozen because managers can’t determine their values because of lack of buyers. As of this writing the Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen nearly 900 points from its high of 14000 based on mortgage default fears. The National Association of Realtors says U.S. housing prices will fall for the first time since the Great Depression of the 1930’s.

Just who are these borrowers that are defaulting on their mortgage loans at a nearly a 50% rate? Leonardo Simpser of the Hispanic National Mortgage Association (NHMA) says that Hispanic first-time buyers constitute the fastest-growing segment of the subprime mortgage market. He also says that many Latinos, especially recent immigrants, have low FICO credit scores or no scores at all and are less creditworthy than they are in reality.

HNMA is the creator of the Hispanic Automated Underwriting System (HAUS) which claims to allow lenders to “eliminate the need for time-consuming manual underwriting of such applicants, and allows lenders to underwrite borrowers with no Social Security numbers and multiple income sources.”

Congress needs to act. We need a full congressional investigation into determining just how rampant the illegal immigration problem is in regards to these mortgage defaults. Much like the savings-and-loan scandals of the 80’s we need to know which banks are catering to illegal immigrants in violation of U.S. law and making these extremely high risk loans putting the economic prosperity of this country in great peril.”

“I have no problem with them buying houses.”

Really? “them” as in illegal aliens? What role, if any, do you think doing so playing in the housing crisis? Are you (at least) opposed to them being here illegally? Are you opposed to them being employed illegally?

Please don't Dowdize my sentences. The full quote was:

"Aliens ineligible for citizenship" isn't just illegals. For example, it may apply to an alien here on a tourist visa or work visa isn't on the citizenship track, but I have no problem with them buying houses.

"Them" clearly refers to people with temporary visas. If a Brit came here two months a year for vacation I wouldn't have any problem with him buying a beach house and having property rights. If someone else had a three year work visa (arguments about the logic of our work visa program can come later), I would have no problem with him buying a house while he stayed and having property rights.

As for the illegals - step one, build the fence and secure the border. It makes no sense to toss people out if you leave the back door wide open for them to return. Step 1A (done at the same time) enforce employment laws including arresting and seizing the businesses of owners who knowingly (or with willful ignorance) hire illegals. Step 2, amend the 14th amendment to make clear that its purpose was to prevent southern states from denying citizenship rights to newly freed slaves, not to give citizenship to anyone who drops a kid within our borders. Our courts have so completely and intentionally misapplied the 14th that we need to amend the Constitution to fix it. Any legislative fix would be pointless.

I have no idea what Dowdize means, but I appreciate your clarification of your position, since it was the word “them”, and that portion of your statement I was unsure about. Sounds like we are 100% in agreement in all respects.
