This must be the talking point of the day...Larry Sabato just suggested her, too.

“Too clever by half. No gimmicks needed to win this election.”

Well, being a Texan, I would not consider Senator Hutchinson being the GOP VP selection as being “too clever by half”. She is a solid conservative; pro life, pro gun, strong on national defense, etc. Having said this and while I would be ok with McCain picking Hutchinson, my preference is Governor Palin of Alaska. She has the same conservative attributes as Hutchinson but in addition is younger, more exciting, and would be a bridge to future elections. But alas, I doubt that McCain will pick either. He will probably pick a dull old white man - same as Obama. Btw, just for the record, I am a dull old white man. Heck, maybe McCain will pick me!

You can be positive it will not be Kay. McCain is distancing himself from Bush, and that means anyone from TX would be included.

Two RINO's for the price of one...

Or has Ann given up on Amtrak, the Trans-Texas corridor, single payer healthcare, and "reasonable" gun control?

Obama is shedding his invincible shine, but it's still his election to lose.

To use "Obama" and "shine" in the same sentence is about as politically incoorect as "Plugs" Biden referring to Barry as "articulate and clean".

Too clever by half. No gimmicks needed to win this election.

Agree. . .and they continue to insult our intelligence by imagining 'we need one'.

Can these folks 'drink their coffee - and smell it too?'

(What about KBH engenders 'confidence of Leadership' should we in fact need McCain's VP to step up and into the Oval Office? Good grief. Just nominate MITT and get OVER it!)

Although they are good conservatives and effective in their own spheres of influence, the Texas Breck Lady and the Alaska Lenscrafters Lady are backbenchers when it comes to stepping into Veep (and possibly President) shoes.

Neither will be nominated. It's time to pray that the dozen or so cheerleaders for these ladies will give us a blessed rest from what is a dead-end sidebar in the vice-presidential speculations.

I think Obama was told he needed a Washington establishment type on the ticket. I don’t believe that Obama cares much about the Vice Presidential candidate.

Hutchison was indicted in the early ‘90s though. The charges were eventually dropped

No, she was acquitted by the jury.

Ronny Earle brought the charges as a political hit job, and tried to get some type of plea out of Hutchison. She said she was not guilty, and went to trial. Earle lost his nerve, and when the trial Judge said "The State will call its first witness." Earle refused to do so. As the State refused to produce any evidence, the Judge sent the jury out with an instruction that, since the State could not possibly have met its burden of prrof, they were to return a "Not Guilty" verdict, which they did.

Later, Earle complained that because the Judge had refused to rule, in advance of trial, what evidence he would admit, he was afraid of what the Judge would do. The Judge, a retired Judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and a Democrat, said "The only thing (Earle) had to fear was that I would follow the law."

As I recall, the meat of the charges was that Hutchison had used a State computer to write, and possibly print, letters that were political, and not related to State business. Frankly, she probably did. But this at a time when Governor Richards was running a political campaign out of the Governor's Mansion, and Gary Mauro, the State Land Commissioner, had State employees, working on State time, and using State credit cards, to further Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign in Texas.

It Earle had indicted all three, he would have had no greater fan than me. If he had indicted none of them, then at least he would have consistent. By indicting only Hutchison, he clearly showed himself to be a political hack, misusing his office for partisan gain.

She’s said she doesn’t want the job, and doesn’t seem the type to smile and shake hands and then rip an opponent’s throat out, like Biden.

"She is 75% pro-life..."

Huh? I think she would be very offended at your characterizing her proud feminist pro-choice record as 75% pro-life. She has an extensive record of supporting the election of pro-choice women of BOTH parties.

Charges were indeed dropped. This was another of the trumped-up charges and malicious indictments by Travis County DA Ronnie Earle, who is notorious for abusing the power of his office in vendettas against political foes.

Kay was charged with improper use of state phones for campaign purposes. (A major violation of the public trust. /s) He dropped charges for lack of evidence on the day the trial was to begin, after the defendants and taxpayers had incurred major costs preparing for the trial.

This was before the republicans had their stupid rule about indicted Congressmen being read out of the leadership. Tom Delay was a victim of Ronnie Earle and this rule.

This indictment, if examined at all, is an example of democrat corruption, not republican corruption.

Another vote for Sarah Palin if he decides to go with a woman. Lifetime NRA member, Drill here-—Drill now, Pro-Choice, and a unprecedented 80%+ approval rating in Alaska. And the fact she's a “babe” doesn't hurt either.

I think Hutchinson is more interested in becoming the Governor of Texas.
