Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell was supposed to give closing remarks during this afternoons Shorenstein Center-sponsored panel discussion with all three Sunday show moderators NBCs Tom Brokaw, ABCs George Stephanopoulous and CBSs Bob Schieffer but instead, he opened up a can of worms about bias in 2008 election coverage
"Ladies and gentleman, the coverage of Barack Obama was embarrassing," said Rendell, in the ballroom at Denver's Brown Palace Hotel. "It was embarrassing."
Rendell, an ardent Hillary Rodham Clinton supporter during the primaries, now backs Obama in the general election. Brokaw and Rendell began debating campaign coverage, including the on-air comments by Lee Cowan, and when MSNBC came up, Rendell went after the cable network.
MSNBC was the official network of the Obama campaign," Rendell said, who called their coverage "absolutely embarrassing."
Chris Matthews, Rendell said, "loses his impartiality when he talks about the Clintons.
At that point, PBS's Judy Woodruff, who was moderating the moderators event, said: "Why dont we let Governor Rendell sit down."
That was met with applause from the crowd of big-time media figures, which included Arianna Huffington, Gwen Ifill, Al Hunt, and Chuck Todd.
Woodruff allowed Brokaw to respond, and in defending the network, he said that Matthews and Keith Olbermann are "not the only voices" on MSNBC.

Is it not amazing how the media types will NOT hear the truth?
Judy Woodruff cut Big Ed off at the knees...there are some things people in the media will not hear.
Bias, bias, bias...all day and all night. Turn on any of the major networks and hear for yourself.
If you can stand it.
All MSM campaign coverage is TUNED OUT at our house, has been for weeks!
I’m flabbergasted - Fast Eddie Rendell utters a truth. He’s still the biggest political hack this side of James Carville though.... whenever I think of him I am reminded of his appearances on various political shows during the 2000 recount process, telling the most outrageous lies on behalf of Gore Inc.
Arianna Huffington and Gwen Ifill are big-time media figures????
Now why would Eddie Rendell be out there revealing the PUMA strategy at THIS point?
The coronation ain’t over yet, folks. The Ice Queen of Narnia has a couple of treacherous moves left still in the original wrapper, and Herself is not afraid to pull them out at the proprietous moment.
The Democrats OWE Herself, still the Cold and Joyless, this one.
It’s all or nothing, girl. Go for it.
I flipped to MSNBC and Morning Joe this morning, the love-in continues. MSNBC is campaign hq for Obama and there is no denying it.
Brokaw’s highlighting the two McCain haters — the two individuals that MSNBC will allow to anchor both republican and democrat conventions. He forgot to mention Mika, Joe, Mithcell, Schuster, Maddow, etc. MSNBC made a business decision to cow-tow to the dkos crowd and they have Keith Olberman running the network. It is a hate filled organization and any advertiser should pull their spots due to their outrageous hate speech and lies.
The crowd clapped when Woodruff told Rendall to sit down. Just one more indication that the media think they are the smartest people in the world. Disgusting stuff.
The rat convention will be lots of fun!
Let’s not overlook the fact that one of those applauding Woofwoof telling Rendell to ‘sit down’ was Al Hunt.
Woofwoof’s husband, who may well have begun the applause.
People who shout, "Shut up! Shut up! I'm not biased! I'm not! I'm not!" are generally pretty severely biased.
He wasn't applauding. He was spanking his monkey.
“Arianna Huffington and Gwen Ifill are big-time media figures????”
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The media are still revering them for two of the turning points of modern liberal broadcasting.
Arianna for climbing into bed on TV with Al Franken back when she was supposedly a conservative.
And Gwen for supporting long-haired hippie guy in and generally skewing the ‘84 Presidential debate by keeping character off-limits.
