China's totalitarian games

CHINA, THE world's largest dictatorship, ruthlessly represses freedom at home while abetting the vilest tyrannies abroad. Letting such a regime host the Olympic Games, many people warned, would prove a mockery of the Olympic charter, which is dedicated to the goal of "promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity."

But Beijing and its supporters insisted that the Olympics would make China better. The Games would "foster democracy, improve human rights, and integrate China with the rest of the world," promised Beijing's vice mayor. "By allowing Beijing to host the Games, you will help in the development of human rights."

The International Olympic Committee repeatedly seconded that motion. "We are convinced," IOC president Jacques Rogge assured one interviewer, "that the Olympic Games will improve human rights in China." He told another: "We believe that the Olympic Games will have definitely a positive, lasting effect on Chinese society."

Well, the Games have certainly had a lasting effect on one part of Chinese society - the 1.5 million men, women, and children expelled from their homes in Beijing to make room for the construction of Olympic facilities and urban beautification projects. To clear them out, the Geneva-based Center on Housing Rights and Evictions found, Chinese authorities resorted to "harassment, repression, imprisonment, and even violence." Demolitions and evictions frequently occurred without due process. Many dispossessed residents were not compensated; those who were usually received a fraction of the amount needed to make them whole.

the 1.5 million men, women, and children expelled from their homes

Yeah, but it's for their own good isn't it? And best for the children too. Just ask Obama.

“Everybody’s watching what’s going on in Beijing right now with the Olympics , Think about the amount of money that China has spent on infrastructure. Their ports, their train systems, their airports are vastly the superior to us now, which means if you are a corporation deciding where to do business, you’re starting to think, ‘Beijing looks like a pretty good option.’”

These will be remembered as the Potemkin Games.

Some recent research on water use by the Chinese olympics shows that farmers have suffered drought, loss of crops, financial hardship and, in some cases, suicide.
Western aggrandizement of Chinese tyranny is appaling. We will suffer immeasurably for our moral lassitude.
The Olympics committee is a bunch of airheads.

"promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity."

Somehow that statement kinda reminds me of the "FREEDOM THROUGH WORK" sign that the Nazis put over the entrance gate at the Auschwitz extermination camp.

When Communist China's dictatorial government allows China's 150 or more million native Christians to worship God freely in privately organized and led true Christian Churches that are not affiliated with the official state created and tightly controlled Chinese "church", I might take their claim that China is not a slave state a little more seriously. After 60 years of murderous oppression, China's Christians who will not associate themselves with the official state sponsored "church" but attempt to worship and evangelize in house churches are still suffering under heavy handed oppression by the communist authorities.

When China was closed off to the outside world by Mao and his gang of murderous thugs in 1949 there were an estimated 8 to 10 million Christians in China, and all foreign Christian missionaries, pastors, and Christian organizations were expelled. Now, after 6 decades of killing, torturing, and imprisoning Christians by the officially atheistic tyrannical government there are an estimated 150-170 million Christians in China.

The commies should have studied the history of the Church under cruel oppression by tyrannical governments and authorities such as ancient Rome and many pagan religious systems down through the centuries. The harder Satan and his human servants have tried to eradicate the Church the faster it has grown and the further it has spread around the globe. Jesus Christ said, "I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it". He has proved over and over for two millenia that he can back up what he says, and no human or spiritual entity can prevail against Him. Communist China won't be the first to learn that it's hard to kick against the thorns.

The IOC is like the Red Cross who toured the Thereisienstadt “Paradise Ghetto”, and came away convinced that the Nazis really aren’t all that bad.

Hey, Obama! How did that Chinese infrastructure hold-up during that earthquake in the spring? How did their emergency responders do? What’s happened to the survivors? Has the free media been allowed into the country’s hinterlands to investigate any of this?

It would be a good thing if McCain brought up Red Chinese/Olympics and all it entailed and the ideas of Communist/Obama. We need a compare and contrast with American vs Marxist thought and deed.
