New McCain Ad:"Why Not Clinton?"
wsj ^

Posted on 08/23/2008 8:29:49 PM PDT by maccaca

No sooner had Barack Obama publicly announced his new running mate had John McCain’s campaign produced an attack ad asking: Why not Hillary?

“Passed Over” will hit the airwaves at (you guessed it) 3 a.m. Sunday. The timing is a reference to Hillary Clinton’s national security ad during the Democratic primary and the same time the Obama campaign sent out its text message announcing Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden as the vice-presidential nominee.

“She won millions of votes. But isn’t on his ticket. Why?” an announcer says in the 30-second spot.

The answer? “For speaking the truth.”

The ad, which has not yet been released, then ticks off a litany of criticism Clinton used against Obama in the prolonged primary, according to a transcript sent to reporters.

“You never hear the specifics,” Clinton says.

“On the Rezko scandal,” the voice says.

“We still don’t have a lot of answers about Senator Obama,” Clinton says in footage from the primaries.

“Senator Obama’s campaign has become increasingly negative,” Clinton says in another scene.

The announcer closes by saying “The truth hurt. And Obama didn’t like it.”

"I think this ad is silly."

It is a stupid ad. I think they're trying to woo her supporters over to his side with it.

They released the choice at 3:00 am... If don’t think that wasn’t a slap in the face, then you’d be a fool.

Obama had to cave to Clinton’s convention request and he was criticized and embarrassed because of his weakness.... His childish response was to select his VP (not her) and inform everybody at 3:00 a.m. in the morning, probably because the story of her not being vetted came directly from the Clinton camp and made big news last night, and it was obviously released in way that made Obama look bad.

There is big bucket of bad blood between Barry and Hillary and McCain is very smart to take advantage of that rift.

Wasn’t that the poll taken AFTER Biden was picked, it was his favorability, not him vs Clinton

I think you would all agree with me on that.

Cage match. Kidney punching. Ears hanging off. I, unfortunately for my own mental health, could go on and on.

It is a stupid ad. I think they're trying to woo her supporters over to his side with it.

What about wooing super delegates over to her side? McCain really shouldn't be elevating Hillary. Period.

How could Clinton poll worse than Biden? Biden couldn’t get 2 percent of his party to notice him. He’s a do-nothing Senator from an inconsequential state. Half the party probably hasn’t heard of him. He certainly isn’t a hero to any moderate Republicans, or independents.

It would amaze me that he polls better than Hillary, who in fact won more primaries than Obama, and currently polls better than Obama on the TOP of the ticket against McCain.

Could Obama picked a whiter white guy than Biden?

Well, McCain in this ad does suggest that the 2nd-place finisher has to be considered a front-runner for the VP slot. If this ad makes the Mitt-haters even more nervous, than it has more than made my day.

Sorry, I should specify that Biden polls better among independents than Clinton, which I really think is the group that Obama (and McCain) wants to court. Among Dems, yes, Clinton does poll better.

Democrats
Candidate Fav-Unfav
Clinton 77-22 (+55)
Biden 65-17 (+48)
Bayh 45-25 (+20)
Sebelius 35-19 (+16)
Kaine 35-29 (+6)

Republicans
Candidate Fav-Unfav
Kaine 29-30 (-1)
Bayh 23-43 (-20)
Sebelius 14-45 (-31)
Biden 22-63 (-39)
Clinton 21-75 (-54)

Indepedents
Candidate Fav-Unfav
Biden 42-29 (+13)
Bayh 31-21 (+10)
Kaine 24-23 (+1)
Sebelius 18-21 (-3)
Clinton 39-57 (-18)

McCain really shouldn't be elevating Hillary. Period.

Read the ad again. McCain is exposing the character of Obama. Everyone, even Repubs, knew Hillary was barely beaten, and should have been considered at least for VP. Because he didn't he showed clearly he is immature, angry and bears grudges. Then the 3am release of his text message was another slap of Hillary. Remember she ran the ad about the WH phone ringing at 3am.

The ad shows he is not presidential.

"Sen. Clinton as VP did not poll as well as Sen. Biden as VP. It’s all about the numbers. It’s not really any more complicated than that."

You are correct but it never hurts to stir some sh*t. The Democrats would do the same for us.

"If this ad makes the Mitt-haters even more nervous, than it has more than made my day."

You obviously fail to realize that if Mitt Romney becomes VP he will use his vast powers as Vice President to force all women in America to take multiple Mormon men as husbands. THEN he'll make them all have abortions!

Gee you are not reading the right threads on FR are ya?

Yes, at the expense of elevating Hillary. Sometimes you have to squint to see the picture clearly.

Be careful what you wish for.
