So?

Stoltz happens to be one of the biggest real estate names in that particular part of the state. When I put my house on the market in Dover in 2001, I went to someone connected with the biggest name in real estate in that part of the state, who just so happened to be my local state representative at the time. Should that woman come under scrutiny because she attempted to sell my house at a time when I was a lobbyist not only making contributions to her campaign, but was a volunteer for the campaign?

"I don’t know, but he says he and his wife put the children to bed every night, then sit at the kitchen table worrying about how to pay the bills."

Oh wow! When did he say that?

He does seem to like to do real estate deals with campaign contributors:

“And let us not forget, while Obama ‘dares to compare’. . .how many homes did McCain own when he was Obama’s age?”

Another question, “How many homes did John Kerry own via Teresa Heinz’s fortune?” Don’t recall much criticism by dems four years ago in that regard. I keep hoping some of the talking heads will bring that up, but I haven’t heard anything so far.

So do more than half the politicians in Delaware, on both sides of the aisle.

There are far more reasons to not support Biden than who he deals with in real estate.

What could amount to something scandalous in a much larger state really means nothing in the incestuous political arena of Delaware.

Maybe this is helpful to understanding that http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2066915/posts?page=72#72 I know little about the DE housing market per se.

Have been amazed as well as their not including the Kerry 'obvious' as they report on what is the Dem's favorite sport.

A 'sport' whereby only the most arrogantly, self-indulgent, hypocritical, money mongering, value-challenged Demrats attack their opposition. . .

. . .he and Jill sold their house in order to help pay for their sons’ tuitions and took a second mortgage to pay for their daughter’s.......

Am sure this looks good and deflects unwanted attention; but as a 'financial reality'; am not buying it.

Sorry, again, but you’re mistaken.

Mercantile National Bank changed their name to MBank in the period you’re talking about. No financial problems... just a name change.

The demise of MBank to “FDIC Bridge Bank”, then to Banc One occurred in the late 80’s...late ‘88 to early ‘89. I was there... as an employee of a major on-site vendor... and was involved in all of the various contract negotiations.

Then it was the ownership of the credit card operation in Delaware that changed ~ inasmuch as my attention was focused primarily on the ability of that unit to pay correct postage I really didn't care much about the ownership above, but there was a change earlier than the date you give.

Now, regarding WHICH M-Bank owned what, did you realize that Midland Bank (the one now demised) and Mercantile Bank both used the name, but I think at different periods.

How many houses does Obama’s biggest cheerleader own? I don’t think he has a problem with that!

Oprah Winfrey’s Real Estate Empire

While Oprah Winfrey’s recent purchase of a nearly $6 million co-op unit in Streeterville has attracted media attention, the talk-show queen also has paid $780,000 for a two-level condominium unit in a loft building that is closer to her studios.

In fact, the Near West Side condo that Winfrey bought is less than a block from Oprah’s studios, in the seven-story Acorn Loftominiums building.

Winfrey purchased the unit, which had been listed for $800,000, through her Studio Merchandise Inc. corporation, which was formed in 1993 and of which she serves as president.

However, unlike the co-op unit on East Lake Shore Drive, which Winfrey is expected to move into–thereby vacating her longtime duplex in Water Tower Place–the Acorn building unit is not expected to be Oprah’s residence.

A spokeswoman for Winfrey confirmed the unit’s purchase but declined to comment on its use.

The new unit is another addition to Winfrey’s massive real-estate empire. Along with this new loft unit, her Water Tower Place duplex and the Lake Shore Drive co-op unit,

Oprah’s other properties are:

- The 42.77-acre “Promised Land” estate in Montecito, Calif., that she bought in 2001 for $50 million and expanded in 2004 by buying an adjacent 1-acre property.

- More than $13 million worth of oceanfront property in Maui.

- A Fisher Island, Fla., condo unit that she purchased in 1996 for $660,000.

- A 10,433-square-foot house on 4.02 acres in Greenwich, Conn., that she bought in 2000 for $3.6 million.

- A house in Merrillville, Ind.

- A lakefront condominium in Milwaukee that she purchased in 2003 for $448,900.

- Two adjoining condo units in Atlanta that she bought in 2003 for $1.515 million.

- A condo in suburban Atlanta that she purchased in 2005 for $825,000.

- A Nashville condo that she bought in 2002 for $191,500.

- A 7,020-square-foot house and an adjacent lot in Franklin, Tenn., that she purchased in 2001 and 2002 for nearly $1.52 million that her father occupies.

- A 2,255-square-foot, single-family house in near west suburban Elmwood Park that she bought in 2001 for $298,000

Now, was Hastert dirty? Bring the evidence.

Careful what you ask for. Land Deal Gives Hastert 300% Profit. It only took 5 mins. searching.

During the real estate run up 300% profit was not all that unusual. If I'd sold my house two years ago at the going price I'd have made nearly 1000% profit.

It's not the percentage of profit, it's how fast the profit is made. If you do what Senator Reid has done, quick turnovers with friends, there's always a question about how legitimate the payoff was.

And conerning land "near" Interstate highways, you might check the prices along I-70 running through the East side of Indianapolis. Do that for parcels within 1/4 mile in fact.

You might be astounded.

It's been a total disaster for 100% of the residential areas, and you'd be hard pressed to find a business concern that's come out ahead in the deal.

There was also a thriving industry in the construction of exceedingly fine measurement instruments in the area. Those guys had to move with no relocation compensation paid by the government. They lost tens of millions of dollars.

The highway you were discussing (as referenced in that article) was 5 miles away from the Interstate in Plano.

I would suggest that using a realistic standard there's little or no connection between the highway and Hastart's property.

It’s possible (probable) that the Senate reporting requirements do not including listing one’s primary residence. That would include the entire compound in Biden’s case.

The idea of the reporting is to reveal any ownership and/or financial interest a Member of Congress might have in an entity that lobbies the Congress. SO, whether one lives in a studio apartment condominium or a huge estate is not relevant to that question unless the property belongs to or was acquired through such an entity.

How much Biden’s Delawre compound is worth in the current hypocritical brouhaha over McCain proeprties is relevant. The more aerial shots of it posted on the net, the better.
