In another thread today a Google Earth photograph reveals the Joe Biden Compound has at least 4 houses, swimming pool, tennis courts, and other amenities. A review of his 2005, 2006, and 2007 Income Tax Returns indicate he reports a net worth of about $470,000. It was reported he has no home note, suggesting his home/homes are paid for. So, how does a person who has never made much more than $150,000 per year amass proterty of magnitudes 10 times or more what he reports to the sentate?
So, Mr. Biden, how many homes do you have. You did not include the value of the four homes on your compound in the report to the senate and the IRS. How many homes beyond the four at your compound do you have? It is legitimate to ask of McCain, it is legitimate to ask you.
Read the book “What It Takes” by Richard Ben Cramer. First of all, it’s an excellent read on the 1988 presidential campaign (in the style of Tom Wolfe). Secondly, it tells the whole story about Biden’s fascination with buying houses he cannot afford.
Biden received $800 to appear on Bill Maher’s show, Maher Live in 1996. lol!
Not ‘70s... 1987-1988.
What I find interesting is that the folks who bought it before him paid 450K for it in 1979. How did it go down 100K in the subsequent 17 years??
Income Tax returns show a net worth.....?
Last time I looked, income tax returns looked at annual income.
Net worth = assets minus liabilities... not there, I think.
Real estate values in some parts of Delaware took a huge hit during some of those years. It was a definite buyers market.
Wrote regulations vigorously for next 5 years or thereabouts, and M-Bank went through another ownership change. Finally, circa the event at the old airport near National Airport, the credit card operation in Delaware slipped out of the fingers of the M-Bank folks and into the clutches of the people the world would know as MBNA.
There's more specifics on the internet for the history from that point, but not for the mid to late 1970s.
There are more detailed events involving collecting underpayments from them, personnel changes of principals in the company, and so forth that I didn't mention.
They were a nightmare. The greed at the top always managed to filter down to the bottom. These guys even rented a list of all USPS employees from a list broker in Canada (who should not have had such a list) and made a special mailing to them. They offered inducements (bribes) such as stainless steel coffee mugs, lower interest rates, etc. When Joe Biden's name is mentioned I think of MBNA.
Whatever wins the votes...
I was going to mention that but thought there might be some schedule that requires a net worth statement.
For a short while after the second span was built Delaware housing zoomed ~ then traffic began piling up just like always ~ then Delaware housing crashed.
I have neighbors who've actually moved back and forth from Delaware trying to keep a bit ahead of the boom/bust cycles in housing.
Not sure it's doable.
Welcome to FR. Why are you defending him?
Biden reports a net worth of about $470,000. $470,000!! That's all? He's been in the Senate for what? thirty years? $470,000?
The question is not So, Mr. Biden, how many homes do you have? The question is, what the hell is wrong with you? Thirty years as an elected member of the government?? A measly $470,000!!
The first thing you’ve got to know about Joe is the house. Probably the first thing he’d show you, anyway. You talk with Biden about anything. ... somehow it gets back to home. And the house is gorgeous, an old du Pont mansion, in the du Pont neighborhood called Greenville, outside Wilmington. It’s the kind of place a thousand Italian guys died building—hand-carved doorways, a curving hand-carved grand staircase that Clark Gable could have carried a girl down, a library fit for a Carnegie, or Bernard Baruch, someone like that. ...
Joe did a $200,000 deal for the house. That was more than he had, of course. But Biden never let money stand in the way of a deal. He got in the developer’s face and started talking—fast. ...
How he *seemingly* affords a house could be a very important issue. If he has no morals, ethics, or integrity in his private life, he'll have none in his public life. If he can't be trusted privately, he can't be trusted publicly.
That whole thing could be a red flag and needs looking into.
I do not like Joe Biden, politically or personally, (one doesn’t spend 20 years in DE politics and not get to know them all) but even I’ve got a hard time with this entire train of thought.
Compared to others in that neighborhood, the Bidens are po’white trash.
Interesting he bought it from a guy (real estate developer)who, along with his family has been a big donor to Biden.
