I think so too.... there's no other rationale for it than by picking someone whom Obama could rely on to help with picking staff and deciding on policy in an Obama Administration. If he thinks he's already President in all but name.. this is the the right choice!

No sense that ATHF makes, it's still one of the very few shows left on TV that never -- and I mean never -- fails to make me laugh within the first minute or so.

I guess the Empty Suit was worried about carrying Delaware.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly ... Delaware's as safe a state for the Dems as there can be, and Biden brings nothing to the table except more experience than the Suit. (then again, so does your average litter of puppies)

“I so wish McCain would pick someone WITH SOME ACTUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS!Is it too much to ask for a man WHO HAS ACTUALLY PRODUCED?”

The obvious pick is Romney. A real maverick, a real bipartisan reformer with a real executive and a real never-in-DC outsider who’s actually done some amazing things in the private sector (Venture Capital and Olympics). Comparing Obama running a few ACORN senators and Romney turning about the Olympics shows how big the stature gap is.

The obvious pick for McCain's VP is Romney.

You move, I second. Now to get John on board with it, and things should be OK.

Could be....or RG...we haven't fielded a winning 100% since RR, our recent track record is not good.

A nice change would be to choose someone who is accomplished, ruthless, has made hard choices governing, with concrete produced results.

How could it hurt to try at this point?

“Romney is awful. If you think Biden is going to have to “unsay” some things he said in the past and attempt to cover up his positions, Romney is probably going to have to burn down all the newspaper archives in the country.”

My primary concerns for the VP candidate are the following:

1) Very good grasp of the issues so that he/she can respond instantly and credibly to democratic attacks and hostile questions from the media. It doens’t matter as much to me that Romney has changed positions. I think it is more important that the VP candidate he be able to put the democrats and the media in their place quickly when necessary.

2) Must be able to win the debate. Most undecideds in my view are heavily influenced by the debate performance and less so by past positions. Since they are less engaged, they tend to believe what the candidates are saying today, if it is said well and convincingly.

I readily admit that Romney is not ideal. But on both points above he will kick ass. The goal is to win in November.

““only political junkies actually watch the VP debate anyway.”

I agree.
While it would be nice if most voters were swayed by experience, logic, and excellent debating skills - that clearly isn’t the case.

There is an emotional element, and image is important.

The “image” of a young conservative, pro-life, pro energy independent woman on the ticket?
That’s a winner.

If voters were concerned about experience, then Hillary and Obama woudn’t have gotten so far.”

We’ll have to agree to disagree.

I don’t think it is so much experience that is necessary as it it is performance. And the performance we need, in my view, comes down to two important facets. The VP candidate must:

1) Have a very good grasp of the issues so that he/she can respond instantly and credibly to democratic attacks and hostile questions from the media. It doens’t matter as much to me that Romney has changed positions. I think it is more important that the VP candidate he be able to put the democrats and the media in their place quickly and decisively when necessary.

2) Must be able to win the debate. I think undecideds will watch the debate. Most undecideds in my view are heavily influenced by the debate performance and less so by past positions. Since they are less engaged, they tend to believe what the candidates are saying today, if it is said well and convincingly.

I readily admit that Romney is not ideal. The bottom line for me is that I think Romney will kick ass between now and the election and I am not sure about Palin. I am more concerned about what the VP nominee is able to actually do between now and November and less about ideal suitability. The reason I think that way is that I think performance between now and November is more important if we want to win. And the ultimate goal is to stop Obama.

Analysis: Biden pick shows lack of confidence

DENVER - The candidate of change went with the status quo.

In picking Sen. Joe Biden, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness — inexperience in office and on foreign policy.

may not to you but the democrats are just salivating for ads contrasting romney as VP and romney during the primary and romney as governor and romney running for Senate.
