Authorities: Arresting, prosecuting 1,000-pound woman proves problematic

EDINBURG -- Authorities scrambled Friday to figure out how to arrest, incarcerate and prosecute a woman estimated to weigh nearly half a ton who was indicted on capital murder charges earlier this week.

Mayra Rosales, 27, has remained under house arrest since she was charged in March with beating her 2-year-old nephew to death.

But now that her case has moved into the state court system, law enforcement officials must address a whole new set of logistical problems before it can go to trial.

Usually someone of that weight has an “enabler” (a spouse or a parent) buying them food by the truckload once they reach 400 lbs. or so and can no longer get around on their own. It’s no different than any other “addiction/enabler” relationship.

I have a VERY large sister (she wasn’t large when we were kids; we were both underweight if anything) and her days truly DO revolve around her next meal; planning it, shopping for it, making it; eating it all at one sitting. :(

We almost always meet over meals...and I’m always chastised for eating a ‘normal’ portion. Maybe I’m the weird-o in the family?

Not! ;)

When you think of an immobile obese person, imagine, what goes in,must come out! Oh the processed grocerys! If she ends up in prison, I’m sure she will either sue the government for gastric bypass surgery, or for food portions that enable her to sustain her weight. The ACLU will be glad to help. On the other hand, she probably wont do time because her lawyer will get her off on the obvious insanity plea.

Capital murder? Did she fall on somebody or did she roll over somebody in bed?

Anyway, with respect to transporting her to the county jail, help is on the way...

Obama said that if he were the defense attorney he’d demand a mistrial because it’s un-American to profile fat people.

How is it even possible to gain or weigh 1000 pounds? How much do you have to eat to weigh that much?

I thought the same thing on the earlier thread yesterday, and she did that in only 27 years. That's a lot of tacos.
