Pelosi Investment Shows Unlikely Energy Alliance Shares Purchased In Pickens Firm; Oil Man's New Role By IAN TALLEY August 23, 2008

WASHINGTON -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her husband invested between $50,000 and $100,000 in T. Boone Pickens's Clean Energy Fuels Corp., which could benefit from legislation the California Democrat favors to boost U.S. use of natural gas.

The investment is a small fraction of the Pelosis' net worth. But it highlights the unlikely alliance evolving between Mr. Pickens, an oil man with a long history of support for Republican causes, and powerful Democrats who have welcomed Mr. Pickens's recent campaign for developing alternatives to oil.

Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Mrs. Pelosi, said the investment "does not raise any direct conflict-of-interest issues" or violate any ethics rules of the House of Representatives. "The speaker has been an advocate for increasing our country's energy independence and for renewable energy for years, long before this purchase," Mr. Hammill said. He said Mrs. Pelosi was unavailable to comment directly on the issue.

Nancy Pelosi’s husband is incredibly rich. Do we get to call her an elitist now????

BTW, Pelosi owns a restaurant where they don’t pay the workers the democrats suggested minimum wage nor are they allowed to join a union.

And at what point does a public figure need to put their investments into a blind trust? Conflict of interest, anyone?

... invested between $50,000 and $100,000...

On a previous thread I read between $100,001 and $250,000. Rush said about $150,000.

You ask if there's a conflict of interest. This from the story:

"There is proposed legislation in Congress promoting natural gas as a transportation fuel

Yes, I think that ranks as FLAGRANT conflict of interest.

Our friends in the HOUSE need to bring this up every half hour or so to bring home the FACTS of why pelosi is sidestepping the vote until all her ducks are in a row to make windfall profits.

T. Boone is putting up his "energy corridor" just miles down the road from me. The transmission lines are already going up, and I have already counted 9 GE windturbines, and this is the Oklahoma side. I might also add that we are DRILLING the hell out of the Anadarko basin, one of the biggest NG basins in the world.

Near Shamrock, TX, the REALLY big farms will be coming in.

The dirty little secret from T. Boone, this has been in the works for YEARS.....;)

"FLAGRANT conflict of interest"

Dems, GOP politicians both invest heavily in energy

I didn't say it was illegal or unprecedented. But when lawmakers propose laws that could enrich their own private investments, it certainly could be considered a FLAGRANT conflict of interest.

By the way, you're constant defense of Nancy Pelosi is taking a more creative turn. Congrats.

"your're"? Don't you mean your?

"defense of Nancy Pelosi"

Incorrect. Defense of Pickens. Not defense of the Pickens Plan, defense of Pickens.

While I may not agree totally with the Pickens Plan, I can articulate my disagreement.

OTOH, you and others who disagree, have attempted to assassinate his character.

He is not the only solid conservative who has had his character assassinated. There have been many.

That is why the number of individuals who have served the GOP in the past, but no longer are willing, keeps growing.

Egads! I hate it when I make grammatical blunders. Thanks for pointing that out, and I mean that sincerely.

As for Pickens, we simply may have to agree to disagree. When he said recently that we can't drill our way out of this crisis, I felt absolutely betrayed by him. That is the Obama/Pelosi/Reid talking point down to a T.

I was always told that you can judge a person by the friends he keeps. Let's face it: Pickens' new friends are no friends of conservatives.
