Op-Ed Columnist
Hoping It’s Biden

By DAVID BROOKS
Published: August 22, 2008

Barack Obama has decided upon a vice-presidential running mate. And while I don’t know who it is as I write, for the good of the country, I hope he picked Joe Biden.

Biden’s weaknesses are on the surface. He has said a number of idiotic things over the years and, in the days following his selection, those snippets would be aired again and again.

*snip*

Working-Class Roots. Biden is a lunch-bucket Democrat. His father was rich when he was young — played polo, cavorted on yachts, drove luxury cars. But through a series of bad personal and business decisions, he was broke by the time Joe Jr. came along.

Jean Kerrie would be great too.

He is so nuanced.

Even today, after serving for decades in the world’s most pompous workplace, Senator Biden retains an ostentatiously unpretentious manner.

That's Hilarious!

Obama’s locked into his “Change” slogan. He can’t name Hillary. If he does, he has to rechristen his campaign “Same Old.”

I'll be shocked if it's Hillary, for the reason you give and also because I highly doubt she wants it. She's already been VP for eight years. Does she want to do another eight, only this time exiled to the Naval Observatory mansion? It's lose-lose for her: either eight years as VP or a loss on her record. She's going to sit this one out and hope for another try in 2012.

Interesting. Though I don’t see how he has a campaign debt - his campaign lasted, what, a week?

That was hilarious!!! Hey, I looked at your profile - nice family! I have a photo of a chair made out of guns I found the other day that you might like, but I don’t know how to copy it here. How do I copy it or maybe I can e-mail it to you as an attachment.

Nevermind that. Do you have an update on the health of Generalissimo Francisco Franco?

His condition is stablized. Which is more than we can say about the Obama campaign.

Any thoughts on several million, simultaneous texts being sent and how they could impact telecommunications tomorrow? Just asking...

A text message uses way less bandwidth than a voice call. It also doesn't need immediate delivery and can therefore be prioritized below voice packets.
