Forget Obama, Real Mystery Is Sen. McCain (*Rolling my eyes* alert)
IBD Editorials ^ | August 21, 2008 | Eugene Robinson

There's a candidate in this presidential race who remains a mystery — hazy, undefined, so full of contradictions that voters may see electing him as an enormous risk.

I'm referring to the cipher known as John McCain.

In fact, there are some basic things about McCain that apparently even McCain doesn't know. Asked Wednesday by reporters from Politico how many houses he and his wealthy wife Cindy own, McCain responded, "I think — I'll have my staff get to you."

The correct answer seems to be somewhere between four and seven, but who's counting?

I don't begrudge McCain his multiple residences or his $520 Ferragamo shoes. I understand that he was just being flippant and unresponsive when he said at the Saddleback forum last weekend that being rich meant having an income of at least $5 million a year.

But it's a stretch, to say the least, for McCain to portray himself as a Regular Joe while painting Barack Obama as some kind of jet-set celebrity.

It's understandable that McCain would want to fuzz this aspect of his biography; at a moment of great economic dislocation and anxiety, people might question one's ability to feel their pain if they know that one's net worth may be somewhere north of $100 million.

Much less comprehensible, and much more troubling, is McCain's habit of "Straight Talking" himself into the wilderness.

When it was pointed out that McCain's pronouncements on the economy often do not conform with his official positions, the candidate's chief economic adviser indicated that we should pay attention to the authorized version — despite the fact that McCain "has certainly I'm sure said things in town halls" that might deviate.

McCain's campaign is just pointing out Obama's hubris. An Obama, for example, that claimed the seas will no longer rise if elected and while in the voting booth an epiphany, a ray of light, will guide the true dimwits to vote for him.

Ha! Ha!

McCain says what McCain thinks will get him the most votes period.

I, for one, am not sure what this RINO politician believes in.

This lefty, Robinson, has never written on thing that made any sense. His politics are so goofy he can’t even do a decent job putting them down on paper.

What’s to know? He was broken and turned and became a sleeper agent waiting for this very moment to take over the country so he can sell it out to the commies. The programming will kick in any moment. He’s been programmed so well that he doesn’t even know that he has been programmed. He doesn’t even know that there are other John McCains out there on Caprica ready to take his place if need be. stinkin’ toasters. I know. I read it on Kos.

Eugene Robinson seems to have face time on MSNBC alot. The MSM brought out all the black reporters, columnists from everywhere when Barack Hussein Obama was talked about running for President. Robinson, as are most talkers on MSNBC and CNN are light weights, never seen much before that time.

You are so correct. McCain wasn’t my first choice (or 2nd or 3rd for that matter) but I can’t say that he ever tried to protray himself as anything but what he is.

Barry is his own worst enemy in the way he portrays himself. His huge ego leaves him wide open for criticism.

Thankfully, McCain is bringing that message to the masses. Wonder if they will pay attention.

Obama and the media created the script for the campaign-— Obama is the one person who is can provide a new kind of politics to usher in change and hope-— McCain and his campaign are just responding and using it to an advantage. There’s a counter move to everything.

The problem is, the character attacks on Obama are much more successful than those on McCain. Houses? Is this the best they got? Heh.

Obama isn’t going to win this on the basis of character. His celeb image has dried up, so now they got to come up with a new narrative. Good luck with that.

Hilarious how the MSM has suddenly forgotten how they have been slobbering all over McCain for the last 10 years, lol. They know his life inside and out.

And now they pretend they never met him before?

He’s the son and grandson of Admirals, so in the military, he’s royalty.

However, they’re just public servants so he’s a pretty “regular guy” who happened to marry well.

Get over it libs!

If Cindy owns all of the homes as was reported, a question of this type would certainly cause one to think about how it should be answered. He probably should have been aware of an impending question though.

About a third of what this guy typed in concerned the great "How many houses" hubbub.

Then he seems to be complaining that McCain doesn't use a teleprompter like Obama does. To wit,

When it was pointed out that McCain's pronouncements on the economy often do not conform with his official positions, the candidate's chief economic adviser indicated that we should pay attention to the authorized version — despite the fact that McCain "has certainly I'm sure said things in town halls" that might deviate.

Next time use a teleprompter, John.

Then the guy starts playing dumb. Remember this, guy? "We are all Americans," a headline in France's Le Monde declared. Get it? Remember 9/11? No? Hmmm.. maybe he's not playing.

Is he suggesting that Shi'a and Sunnis do not cooperate by reciting that silly charge against McCain? Iranian support for Al-Qaeda continued to increase, even as Clinton administration officials sought to extend an olive branch to the Islamic Republic.[9] The 9-11 Commission documented at length Iran's continuing assistance to Al-Qaeda and recommended that the U.S. government further investigate Iranian links to Al-Qaeda.

I think it's willing dumbness. He says that McCain says no taxes then "next he says that everything is on the table as far as Social Security is concerned." The major issue is SS reform vis-a-vis privatization. Isn't it reasonable to reckon that that is what McCain was talking about?
