China, in its effort to look "democratic", decided to "allow protests" during the Olympics... but only if you applied for a permit... and only in 3 designated areas far from the Olympic venues... and they haven't actually approved of a single permit yet (of about 700+ applications)... and now they're punishing a few of those who dared to apply.

Incredible.

Honestly, in many ways, you can easily feel more free to do anything that you want in China than in the US. However, if you ever get within 100 miles of getting the attention of federal or local officials, especially by embarrassing them, THEN you're in for a world of confusion... and worse.
