Gene Upshaw was a dear friend of Condi’s.
She must be very sad today.
My turn is Tuesdays to ping
ahhh ok :))
What happened and who was Gene Upshaw?
I googled his name and apparently he has died. If I remeber correctly there were photos of Condi and him at the Inauguration in 2005.
OIC, thanks
Head of the NFL players union.
He found out sunday he had pancreatic cancer, he died today.

Just in case you missed this AWESOME moment from last night:
Video: (BEACH) VOLLEYBALL TEAM WINS GOLD, BLINDSIDES NBC WITH SHOUT-OUT TO (PRESIDENT) BUSH!
August 21, 2008 by Allahpundit
A palate cleanser by popular request; youll remember our heroines here from the Butt-Pat That Wasnt. The official Olympics site has highlights of the match but this snippet had to be rescued from oblivion by Tivo. Exit question: Good lord dont they know who runs this network now?

WOW! Prayers up for his family and Condi!
That has been a crazy storm!
Thanks for the Dose tonight, Snugs.
Prayers for the people of Florida...and for Condi who is
in harm’s way!
The comments were worth going to the link...but couldn’t
watch the video at this time.
Those are awesome girls. I have always made fun of beach
volleyball...but I think I like it now! LOL!
Wow, it must have been advanced quite a bit when he only found out Sunday about it.
I was watching it last night
SNUGS! Thanks for keeping us up on where our President is and what he’s doing. Without you presenters, we’d rarely even know.
Hi Snugs,
The football player that has escorted Condi on several occasions was Gene Washington. He is very distinguished looking. I remember Gene Upshaw’s name during the players strikes during past years. I’m sorry to hear about his passing so quickly.
I was watching the May-Walsh volleyball match the other night when they thanked the President. I was really surprised and very pleased.
Wow, it must have been advanced quite a bit when he only found out Sunday about it.

Pehaps it was a football players’ mentality to tough out pain- who knows?
ThHat’s the fastest I’ve ever heard regarding diagnosis and death.
Thanks for the ping!
It seems that NBC Really does not want anyone to see that Shout out to President Bush. Although the item is still listed on Hot Air, not even the link to 187 comments about the video works now (unless it is just a problem with my computer.)
Since I couldn’t see the video on Hot Air, I went to google to look for other reporting and found a point by point description of the match. The author worte a good story all the way to the last paragraph and then -— Wow! was all I could say.
“May and Walsh won their 108th consecutive match and became the most successful beach volleyball team of all time. May brought a vial of her mother’s ashes to scatter in the tournament sand. Then, strangely, Kerry Walsh exclaimed to an NBC reporter that she wanted to “thank President Bush for all that he does!””
“Not the best way to end the most amazing professional beach volleyball career in history, but as someone who’s not likely to ever win a gold medal, it was nice for me to know that nobody’s perfect...”
