Concerning the Ukraine asking NATO to patrol the Black Sea, Turkey will have some objection. According to the 1936 Montreux Convention, countries that do not border the Black Sea are only allowed to have a certain amount of tonnage in the Black Sea. Turkey does not want to weaken that convention. Perhaps having one to 2 ship from 10 nations is the way to get it done.

The article is a little inconsistent, it reports at the top that the Ambassador has been detained, but later indicates his plans for visits later in the day. I wonder if this was one of those delayed at a checkpoint issues or something more substantial? Any update would be appreciated.

We’re not stuffing Boomers into the Black Sea.
The only entrance to the Black Sea is through the city of Istanbul, with a channel only 700 yards wide.

I hope those drunken thugs you call 'soldiers' enjoy their date with the US Navy.

Curious how nationalistic those Russians living in the USA are turning out to be. If Russia is so great, why they over here?

Has our navy ever been in the Black Sea before?Yes, but it wasn't always real friendly (Soviet Krivak I class frigate intentionally collides with USS Yorktown (CG-48) in 1988).

Because they are hypocrites and hyphenated americans that show their true loyalty. Assimilate and become an americans or leave its simple.

What's that dork doing on this thread?
Does he want to argue that survivors of thuggish invasions should be left to die?

The straight cuts through downtown Istanbul. It divides the city in half. 700 yards wide, with 4 bridges crossing it. 40 yards deep.
That’s the only water entrance to the Black Sea.

Right about now, as that U.S. guided missile frigate enters the Black Sea, Georgians should be saying to themselves that Saakishvali was a pretty bright lad to stand with President Bush in Iraq.
Favor is being repaid with favor...both nations putting blood and treasure on the line.
And it’s the right thing to do in both cases.
