Obama camp lashes out at 'quick-draw' McCain

Barack Obama savaged his Republican rival John McCain Wednesday for running a dishonorable campaign that aides to the Democrat said smacked of "reckless" desperation. In some of the most vehement attacks yet heaped on the Arizona senator by the Obama camp during this White House campaign, the Illinois senator said he honored McCain's public service but not the manner of his electioneering.

Coinciding with a new poll suggesting McCain has overhauled Obama among voters nationally, Obama's senior foreign policy adviser Susan Rice portrayed the Republican as a hot-head who could not be trusted to stay cool under fire.

McCain's "tendency is to shoot first and to ask questions later," she said on a conference call alongside former White House anti-terrorism adviser Richard Clarke, who called the Republican "trigger-happy" and "reckless."

From a military perspective, I would much rather have a leader who is decisive in action and will take the appropriate steps to accomplish a task quickly and with perhaps only 70-80% of the available intel over one who waits too long, until they have the "perfect" solution to the situation.

Decisive action is inspiring.

Over-analyzing is un-inspiring and creates a sense of fear, dread and uncertainty in the troops.

One thing I have always said about McCain, people will think before they mess with us.

Given, Putin's recent actions and rhetoric, we need someone that will not be afraid to get his attention.

In the end people want to be be safe, to protect their families and way of life. They realize that Peace comes through Strength, capitulation and hand holding only gets you slavery, in one form or another.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I *want* a man in office that has the rest of the world, including the ChiComs, Russkies and the IslamoNazis thinking that he might just go nuclear at any moment. That, plus his Pro-Life stance are the only two things that will get me to vote for McCain. The rest of his positions on immigration, economics, entitlements, taxes and the like are woefully inadequate.

We are seeing one of Barack Obama’s worst tendencies at work here, which is his pattern of insisting that his mistakes define a better reality, and that this better reality must be enshrined in policy, rather than admitting he made a mistake.

We saw this in the Democrat debates last Summer, where Obama made a gaffe and said he would meet as President with enemies of the United States without preconditions. Rather than issuing a statement the next day saying that this was, obviously, an ill considered opinion, and that negotiations be the result of long, painstaking negotiations, Obama doubled down and insisted that his willingness to meet without preconditions reflected a better reality and that he was the superior candidate for having embraced it. He has stuck to this manifestly disasterous position to this day, in spite of ample opportunities to temporize, because, to his mind, it is better to commit the United States to a disasterous policy than to admit a mistake.

We saw this tendency again in the controversy over the comments of Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Rather than admitting that he listens to and dismisses some of the more inflammatory statements of his Pastor because he recongnizes that “firebrand” rhetoric is a matter of style, Obama embraced Rev. Wright and defended his statements in their totality. He gave a “big historic” speech, of which I defy anybody to remember a single line other than when he threw his Grandma under the bus, in which he defended these statements as some kind of greater truth. It was only when Rev. Wright made it clear he was going to be a continuing source of embarrasment that Obama backed off.

Now we have another mistake by Obama, where he issued a kneejerk, Rodney-King-ish (”Can’t we all get along?”) statement on Russia/Georgia, because he was not well informed and on vacation. Instead of just admitting that he does not carry the entire global strategic picture around in his head while bodysurfing, and that, on reflection, he condemns the Russian aggression, Obama compounded his error by embracing dithering as a virtue. Now he is raising dithering to the level of doctrine, by citing his delayed response as a fundamental strength, as opposed to “Quick Draw” McCain.

Barack Obama has never understood The First Law of Holes, that states that when one finds himself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging. He is forever trying to dig his way out of the bottom, because he would rather make the problem worse than admit error. This is a bad characteristic in a candidate, but a disasterous one in a President. A President must be able to adjust to changing conditions, remove his ego from the situation, and keep the national interest always formost in his mind. Based on his actions on the trail, which is all we have to go on given his thin resume, Barack Obama will instead lurch from mistake to mistake, as he utilizes the power of the Presidency to make sure he is never wrong.

When the man is in a hole and just digging with his own shovel, it is a minor problem and cause for amusement. When he is digging using the entire apparatus of the United States Government, the situation is dangerous.

Some polls actually have him leading in the Electoral College. If you add leaners, he’s ahead...
