Geraghty: Two Bits of Data Suggesting ... Hillary?
National Review ^ | August 20, 2008 | Jim Geraghty

Posted on 08/20/2008 3:18:51 PM PDT by Oliver Optic

From Jim Geraghty's CampaignSpot blog at National Review:

Soren Dayton, writing over at The Next Right:

A very good source is telling me that multiple DNC members have told him that Hillary is the person. While not immediately intuitive, Clinton is the candidate who one can easily imagine helping with Barack Obama's numbers. Which seem to be ... in bad shape? Who else would fundamentally shift the numbers? You could see her bringing Democrats back home, etc., in a way that none of the other candidates could.

By the way, she would probably school most Republican VP candidates in the debates. And she and Bill know how to attack attack attack.

Meanwhile, arriving in my e-mailbox moments ago:

Hillary Clinton will campaign for Senator Barack Obama in Florida’s Orange County, Palm Beach County, and Broward County on Thursday, August 21.

In Orange County, Hillary Clinton will meet with officials from the Sheet Metal Workers International Association. Media may cover this event, but it is not open to the public.

I can’t wait until the choices are made and the speculation is over. But this makes sense to me. Obama needs some help, and she can provide it.

I doubt she wants to be Obama’s VP. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think she hopes his numbers cause the convention to go her way. If not, she will sit back, open a box of popcorn, and enjoy the debacle, then bide her time til 2012. She knows McCain is an old man.

Yeah, she can help by providing a way for him to meet Vince Foster. If she’s his veep, he won’t live out his first term. Possibly not even his first month.

1. The Democratic ticket completely ignores white males.
2. The GOP base gets fired up to prevent Hillary from being veep

Maybe..... Although I think McCain could and would make political hay out of the idea that the Democrat ticket would be standing on its head, in terms of experience and ability -- vote for Obama and hope that Hillary's "experience" carries him through the crises that will surely confront him?

Hilary doesnt WANT to be his VP...She knows he is ‘unelectable’, and will be swiftboated out of contention.

If Obama is naming his VP tomorrow, then it’s not going to be Hillary. He’d be her last choice, the one that he would choose only if he had no other choice. But you don’t make that Hobson’s choice until the convention.

I think that Hillary knows that a failed presidential bid, even if it’s only for the VP slot, will set her up nicely to win the Nobel Peace Prize. It worked for Al, it should work for her. Al got one. She’s going to want one too.

Maybe you are

As I've been saying for many years, I'm worried about VICE President Clinton.
Think of it:

• Two years and one day into her term the first slotter gets arkincided
• Under Article XXII, she can still run for two full terms as the incumbent
• The Glorious Hillary!™ Decade begins
• Hillary uses the Patriot Act to it's fullest extent, and beyond
• At the end of the Glorious Hillary!™ Decade there is a National Emergency "temporarily" delaying the elections
• Under the pressure of the National Emergency, the 2nd and 22nd amendments are repealed
• By the time the National Emergency is over all the 'improved' source code for the touch screen electronic balloting will be in place......

Just as an aside, with the Clinton's well known love of 'ethnics', Obama is very expendable, isn't he?

So if he is going to announce his VP before the DNC, and it is not Hillary, the second night is going to be a doozie i think!

Bill hates Obama, Michelle hates Hillary. Sounds like a perfect match to me. On a serious note, there will be no doubt Obama is a fool if he picks Hillary - he’ll have whiplash for 4 years from trying to watch his back.

I think it would give a big boost to Obama by energizing Dems ... but long term I'm not convinced it's a winning ticket. And as you mentioned, it would energize the GOP as well.

Of course, if a whole slew of soccer moms get pulled into the "historic" nature of the Black/female thing ... all bets are off.
