Was cutting off ties with NATO their “response beyond diplomacy.” ? Or is there something else?

someone save me from this madness.
Rick, how much time have you spent in Panama, and when?

“Ummm Five miles, eh?

And you’re what citizenship? Let me correct your misconception of this being some kind of dumb assed urban legend. It’s a matter of history. Below is the history.

After the war, United States’ control of the canal and the Canal Zone surrounding it became contentious as relations between Panama and the U.S. became increasingly tense. Many Panamanians felt that the canal zone rightfully belonged to Panama; student protests were met by the fencing in of the zone and an increased military presence.[16] Negotiations toward a new settlement began in 1974, and resulted in the Torrijos-Carter Treaties. Signed by President of the United States Jimmy Carter and Omar Torrijos of Panama on September 7, 1977, this set in motion the process of handing the canal over to Panamanian control for free as long as Panama signed a treaty guaranteeing the permanent neutrality of the canal (Neutrality Treaty) and allowed the U.S. to come back anytime. Though controversial within the U.S., the treaty led to full Panamanian control effective at noon on December 31, 1999, and control of the canal was handed over to the Panama Canal Authority (ACP).

Before this handover, the government of Panama held an international bid to negotiate a 25-year contract for operation of the canal’s container shipping ports (chiefly two facilities at the Atlantic and Pacific outlets), which was won by the firm Hutchison Whampoa, a Hong Kong-based shipping concern whose owner, Li Ka Shing, is the wealthiest man in China.

Let me further elaborate:

Mr. Li Ka-shing is the Chairman of Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited and Hutchison Whampoa Limited. Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited is the flagship of the Cheung Kong Group which has business operations in 57 countries around the world and employs about 260,000 staff. In Hong Kong alone, the Group includes 8 listed companies with a combined market capitalization of approximately HK$804 billion. Hutchison Whampoa Limited is a Fortune Global 500 company.

Hong Kong was a dependent territory of the United Kingdom from 1842 until the transfer of its sovereignty to the People’s Republic of China in 1997.

Therefore... you are dead wrong.

Mr. Ka-shing owns the company that runs the Panama Canal. His company is located in Hong Kong. Hong Kong BELONGS to the Chinese. Therefore... by default the Chinese Government HAS CONTROL IF IT SO WISHES OVER THE PANAMA CANAL.”

Why is no one questioning whether the CIA or Pentagon knew of the 15,000 Russian troops amassing on the border with Georgia? Would they have known if it was Poland rather than Georgia? Something tells me this was a complete shocker to both agencies. Pants down, scratching ass.

I’ve been to 45 countries. Including Panama.

I don’t think you answered MY questions. I don’t think I’ll be answering yours as a result of you attempts to obfuscate.

The material I posted is accurate. I obtained it from multiple sources.

Are you an American citizen or not? You certainly aren’t military. You appear to be someone who really comes to this site to saying negative things about America on and off.

I guess if you want to make statements like you did earlier today about me being wrong you should, PERHAPS give me some evidence that what you say is true. Apparently what you say is simply your opinion based on nothing at all.

Please, don’t respond to me again unless you’re going to mback up your nonsense with facts and resources.

You stated that my remarks are “urban legend”. I’ve shown that it is NOT urban legend. Your turn to prove me wrong or that it IS urban legend.

...and possibly coincidentally, Russia has a carrier heading to Syria, too.

Anyone wanna bet that Poland will never see those defensive missiles?

If I’m Poland, I’m sleeping with one eye open.

Pulling away from NATO military cooperation tells me that they very well may provide Iran with nukes now.

I believe Putin is capable of anything at this point.

I think we should double the number of interceptor missiles that will be placed in Poland and point half of them toward Russia.

Just a thought.

A really good read is in the bible, Ezekial 38. This is the war of Gog and Magog on Israel. It becomes nuclear and Israel is considered the victor. This is not WWIII however, it is a regional war. No doubt, this would cause oil to become so much per barrel it would finish off the US financial system. We would rebuild it of course and in a hurry but the real prize for Russia in all of this is the international monetary peg that the US enjoyed for 50 years. We are going to temporarily lose this monetary advantage as a superpower because:

1) Corruption on Housing between Congress and Investment Banks, mostly NYC.
2) Democrats fighting against energy independence the last 25 years.
3) Global utopian vision which the US government felt would greatly accelerate trade and we could tax. This is in combination of a 25 year economic theory, called the Efficient Market Hyposis. This is an economic superstorm, created by greed, corruption and hubris. We exported our real wealth to the East for debt.

But we will get restore things, this correction of our nation and the final events in the end of ages will be much harder for us as a nation then it has to be. That is called “free will” not God as a monarch waiting around to punish us. The enemies in the East are murderers, we just got stupid and left our Judeo Christian value system at the door to make sure our minorities that vote were pandered to and we could get all the petty things we thought were valuable but don’t amount to much in the end. True freedom is what is important, now we must break the chains defeating the enemy within, then the enemy without. It will happen though.

No. Not yet. This is a phased plan. First, the Soviets (lets call them what they are and have been for decades) will create strong allies in the energy sector so when they are ready to shut off oil to the West, they can.

That doesn’t happen overnight and Israel just so happens to be a strategic buffer to there plans in the way. The Chinese have some economic leverage on the West as well and between oil shut off and China, our economy will be toast for a short time.

Our mental dwarves in Washington whom are just waking up to these facts will bicker over the scraps of budget in the next four years and fleece the Middle Class as tax receipts fall. This happens repeatedly in history. True leadership doesn’t just emerge in a year in an empire like America.

And 45% of our population is on some form of entitlement from government. Those on the dole will hinder restoration of good leadership. Those whom are rich have expatriated, will expatriate and can hide resources. That is always why the visible Middle Class get fleeced in history after an empire overexpands and leadership becomes hedonistic (along with a sizeable portion of it’s population).

North Korea is the big flash point of WWIII and by that point, we’ll then be squaring off against the Russo-China alliance directly. Islam is fodder. The twits in the Middle East will wind up suffering the most from these series of nasty affairs as they should. But they get to laugh at our self-inflicted folly first which really bugs me.

It takes a strong economy to have a strong military. Right now, we would defeat the Russo-China-Islam alliance in a global war. But 3-4 years from now will be a different story.

If we are smart, any large scale terrorist attack should be met with neutron bombs or battlefield nukes to send a very strong message we won’t be playing with the proxies to further drain our resources.

Some will say to me here (and I have heard this before) that our economy can afford anything and I am wrong. These are Washington politicians whom don’t understand economics. If you feel this way, private FR me and I will show you charts, financials and facts of how the Milton Friedman Efficient Market Hyposis has failed. Debt and deficits matter and we are now a debtor nation, beholden to other nations.

If we default which is likely at some point, they join this Russo-China-Islam alliance. There are solutions but like most empires, we overstretched and hedonism began destroying our culture. Similar set of affairs occured in 1929-1945 but now with nukes involved. It ends with a victory, but about 1/3 of mankind goes prematurely. And that this nation allowed it to happen so quickly from 1992 to 2008 is very disturbing indeed.

I watched the video. I read the Left Behind series and Obama sounds a lot like Nicolai Carpathia (the Antichrist). A relatively unknown man who rises to unseemingly messianiac proportions quickly, and promises to rid the world of nuclear proliferation.

When I watch Obama, I see the Antichrist.

Not necessarily. Many options outside diplomacy short of open hostilities. Russia could seek to destabilize old Soviet holdings, rim states, even Central America, they could greatly increase arms shipments to our enemies, open bi-lateral/mutual defense pacts with people we hate, etc. etc.

More than anything else, the timing of this statement seems most significant to me. Looks a lot more like sleight of hand designed to make us forget about/accept Georgia than real concern over Poland and NMD.

My two cents...

As for the Ukraine - Russia has been giving Ukraine citizens Russian passports (as Russia also did in SO, Georgia). Dual citizenship is prohibited in the Ukraine. If a high % of a province has Russian passports, R can start trouble again and then just say he’s protecting his citizens.

This isn’t over..he’s power hunger and angry.

Does anyone know what Russia’s GDP is?

We bankrupted them before, wonder if we have the resources to do it again?
