“OH OH I wonder how Magic Barry going handle the Russians if he get into office”

He is a highly trained “community organizer”. He may organize a bake sale with the local PTA as a sponsor. The proceeds will go for world peace or to a worth cause in Russia. Cookies For Commies?

The Iraq War has taken five years longer than assumed.

We should have crushed them, split the country on ethnic lines, and left. (Well, maintained just enough presence to keep neighboring countries from trying to take over and start slitting their islamic brothers' throats).

For all the help they gave us, Turkey has earned a hostile Kurdistan on its border.

And the fact that the new Kusrdistan would border Iran is just icing on the cake.

I have been preaching this for some time now. Only to be laugh out of here. This recent deal with Poland is 115 miles from Russia, Cuba is 90 miles from the Florida. Guess how Russia will respond.

Simple, Colombia use to be part of Bolivia when the nation broke from Spain. Then of course they split up. Plus the fact Hugo has been paying off the Farc Rebels also.

They do this for public as well as private reasons, and by keeping their people riled up against some foreign aggressor, they are much better positioned to take away rights and liberties necessary to maintain political control.

A key strategy since the dawn of civilization - practiced by almost every nation at one time or another, and it will continue to be. Immunity to this exploit is granted to no people nor any form of government - every instance of its application is evil.

Make that four wars.

We’ve also got a potential war with Iran and now a destabilized Pakistan, to boot.

"after that they they start getting irrational."

You imply that they started out rationally. I suspect you intended to say "started getting even more irrational"

Why are you assuming Russia would go against their own precedent and hit Iran? They are aligned WITH Iran.

Yeah? They aligned with Hitler, too.

I think they're just proud "to be somebody" again,

Yes, that is, and has been part of the games they play. Russians have always been highly nationalistic, and their breakup after the cold war was very, very painful to their ego's, but the Nationalism stems from successive Russian governments that created it by singling out various enemies to demonize and feed the nationalistic tendencies.

I probably could say that we do it to a much lesser degree and without the need to redirect public angst to some outward target. That is because compared to them, we are indeed truly free. They are not, and the short time they were, they could not deal with it and self destructed. They just did not give it the time necessary and could have been successful.

It's a damn shame, because Russia will now cause the rest of the axis of evil to coalesce around their lead, and they have now officially kickstarted the politically powered drive towards WWIII which if it were to occur could lead to the destruction or severe damage of the entire world economy which will set us back decades if not longer.

They are not going to stop until concessions are made by the West, and if that happens, then they will try again for more. This is a given truth. The reality is that if not stopped here and now, we will have warfare in the future and it won't be conventional for long.

One can only hope that China will make a wise and prudent decision to drop the pretenses, and keep it's self out of this for the time being. They need to side with the West in terms of the U.N. Plus they cannot get involved in the European territorial disputes that are soon to come. If they use their power wisely, they will keep this from going critical mass too early for a diplomatic solution. If not, they will speed it up like sugar in a three year old.

Hmm. Good point.

I was thinking more along the lines of narco-dollars.

Let me extend your line of reasoning a little further.

Panama (the birthplace of McCain) used to be part of Colombia...

The positions are what is important.

If this blows up into a full scale World War, those positions will be fortified with many more “assets” that were not required to “keep the peace” in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We will also go to a whole new level of whats allowed militarily (Think WWII), the gloves would come off. the little excursions in the two countries your thinking of are nothing more than a minor annoyance for the full might of the Armed Forces.

Hell, the hard part of using another country as a base for offensive military operations has already been done.

You put too much stock in the PR that the dims propagate.

(huffy voice) Well you know none of this would’ve happened if we weren’t succeeding in Iraq. If we had just accepted defeat, we wouldn’t be making the Russians feel threatened!

I did note that obvious point, but also the point that we are superior in every way militarily to Russia. When you throw in the fact that we would have the UK and their nuclear arsenal on our side as well (and possibly the French), Russia knows that they would get smashed. Putin and his circle of gangster oligarchs can’t enjoy all of that oil money they have stashed away in Swiss bank accounts if they’re dead.

Russia’s biggest advantage is in the threat of violence, not actual violence. If they are stupid enough to not realize this, they are going to pay a heavy price.
