McCain takes 5-point lead over Obama-Reuters poll

In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama's solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll.

That's a tough claim to verify when Hillary spent 250 million dollars to lose the Democrat nomination.

Was this presidential candidacy just a practice run for her?

I think Hillary has big problems in 2012 especially if Barack loses big this year.

She lost to an empty-suit, loser Democrat nominee who came out of nowhere to kick her ample butt before she knew what hit her.

She has proven there is nothing "inevitable" about her and some new "flavor-of-the-month" candidate might emerge in a few years to clean her clock again.

Are the people who shelled out the millions this time for Hillary going to be quick to throw money away again?

Assuming all these polls are true, which is a big leap, but say they are fairly accurate, I’ve always wondered who are all these wishy washies that say, “I’m voting for Obama. I’m voting for McCain. No, I’ve changed my mind, I’m voting for Obama.”

As someone pointed out up thread, the difference in the various polls is registered voters versus likely voters. McCain polls more strongly with likely voters.

The other thing that I’ve heard a lot about lately is the “Tax Credits” for college and other things. If I were running a private college and I knew that most of my parents are going to get a $4,000 tax “Credit” (not deduction), the first thing I would do is raise my tuition $4,000. Most Americans realize that is exactly what will happen.

As a University faculty member, I absolutely agree that we would raise tuition and fees by at least $4000 if this bill were passed. I'm not sure I agree that the American people are smart enough to realize this though -- at least not enough of them to prevent a bill like that from passing.

relax. BHO will be ahead by 8-10 points after his Denver love-in and speech. The MSM will practically make this an innauguration. However, they did the same for Hill already, hehehe. The american peeps do not like being told their future.

I hope so, but Zogby’s sauce had Ken Blackwell only down five in OH about three weeks out and Ken lost by 25. So his sauce runs both ways.

Zogby's state polls are usually the worst ones out there. I'm not sure why that is, but he is often a big outlier in statewide races.

But almost every single poll is showing Obama losing.

He’s losing Dems, women, younger voters, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Colorado, Catholics and Ohio by my count this week.

Hillary is looking at 2012. If she is secretly undermining Obama's chances, it is because she has her eye on the 2012 election. If she takes it away from Obama at this point, then she will never get elected president and she, being the smartest woman in the world, should know this.

That is the smartest move on her part IMHO.

1. Go through the motions of supporting Obama this time around to keep from alienating any Dems.

2. Behind the scenes try to undercut him so he loses badly in November.

3. Keep subtly reminding voters "I told you so" after the Obambi loss.

4. Present herself as the savior of the Democrat Party when she announces her candidacy for 2012.

I find it hard to believe Obama wouldn’t have informed his vp yet since the media is going around saying they are going to campaign together Saturday. I mean wonder if for some reason his choice refuses.

I don’t know what to think of the Rasmussen poll. It’s usually the one I rely on, but there’s not much movement one way or the other, yet even the liberal leaning polls are acknowledging that McCain is moving ahead. After Saddleback, there’s no way McCain isn’t making gains. I just wonder why Rasmussen doesn’t reflect that more.
