Huckabee Says He'd Consider VP Offer
International Herald Tribune ^ | August 19, 2008

Posted on 08/19/2008 5:40:49 PM PDT by Plutarch

Mike Huckabee on Tuesday said he has not been approached by John McCain about being the U.S. presidential candidate's running mate. But he'd certainly consider the offer.

Huckabee said he didn't think anyone who has run for the U.S. presidency would turn down a chance to be vice president. The former Arkansas governor dropped out of the presidential race last March after McCain clinched the Republican nomination.

Speaking to reporters in Jerusalem, Huckabee said he has received "no indication" that McCain is considering him as a running mate. But if asked, Huckabee said it would be hard to resist.

"I don't think anybody that runs for president turns around and says no," he said. Still, he said he did not consider himself a candidate, adding it would be "disrespectful" to suggest names.

McCain may name his running mate between the end of the Democratic convention on Aug. 28 and the start of the Republican convention on Sept. 1

I know many Jews over 40 that are wary of Obama. They feel he is a light weight and unfit to lead in a unpredictable world. These same people admire McCain's live story. They like his individual streak. However they are wary that if McCain becomes President, he will bow down to the Religious Right. Having Lieberman on the ticket would swing them to support McCain. But for every Jewish indie, we gain we lose a conservative. Many Jews don't normally vote Republican because Evangelicals freak them out. When Evangelicals talk of stopping gay marriage and partial-birth abortion, Jews feel that these are small steps in using the Govt to force them to be Christians. If doesn't help when Kansas conservatives push to have Creationism to be taught in govt schools or Roy Moore defying a court ruling to post the Ten Commandments. Such actions reinforce negative stereotypes Jews have of Republicans.

The Huckster can’t be any worse than his would-be boss.

Huckster is trying to eak out a few more seconds of PR.

Huckster is a non-starter.

Perhaps Eric Cantor would be someone who appeals strongly to both groups.

Slick Willard is slick enough to at least pretend to be a conservative.

Is that so much to ask for?

Just pretend you are for limited Constitutional government.

It’s not hard to flip flop for crying out loud.

Humor me.

Cantor would be a bold choice. It would show the world that the GOP isn’t a country club for Southern Evangelicals. The big question is does Cantor enchance McCain’s chances of taking Va even with Kaine as Obama’s Veep?

I guess we shouldn't laugh so much. Time speculates Huck was in Israel to burnish his Veep credentials.

Huckabee Among the Jerusalemites

Posted by Tim McGirk | Comments (2) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0) | Email This

A cellphone rang while former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was eating breakfast in Jerusalem yesterday. “It must be Senator McCain wanting to put me on the ticket as vice-president,” joked Huckabee, who a few months back lost to McCain in his bid to become the Republican presidential candidate.

Huckabee didn’t rule out the possibility that he might accept the candidacy, but said, with aw-shucks modesty, that he would be “very surprised” if McCain offered it to him. “So far, there’s no indication that I’m on the list,” the governor claimed bashfully, between mouthfuls of egg. A McCain-Huckabee Republican ticket would have several advantages: the folksy, former Baptist pastor would help McCain woo millions of evangelical voters who are skittish about the twice-married senator.

So why go to Israel, why now? Was Huckabee in Jerusalem burnishing his credentials as an ardent supporter of Israel, as are many of the Christian Right in America, in hopes that McCain might pick him? A trip to Israel does no harm to his standing with American Jews; they are traditionally wary of the Christian right, but might overlook Huckabee’s Bible Belt beliefs on education and abortion because of his backing for Israel...

Bill Clinton can pretend to be the Pope, it doesn’t make him so. Some of us actually expect substance and real accomplishment, not a pack of lies.

Agreed. Huckabee is not the pick to bring Christians on board for McCain.

“He’s dead John”.

Well, not exactly. Huck is "trading" at 4% at Intrade. I think the current price of 4% represents that he has flatlined; the last trade that was made a long time ago, and no one has bothered to trade his contract in a long time.

I guess this clown is going to be around for a bit longer. At one time he had quite a following but that seems to have evaporated. Folks started asking questions I guess.

Not sure he is even invited to the RNC convention LOL
