Biography
Palin was born as Sarah Louise Heath in Sandpoint, Idaho, U.S.A..

Palin was the point guard for the Wasilla High School Warriors when they won the Alaska small-school basketball championship, in 1982.[1] In 1984, Palin competed in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant after winning the Miss Wasilla contest earlier that year.[2] In the Wasilla pageant, she played the flute and also won Miss Congeniality.

Details of Palin’s personal life have contributed to her political image. She eats moose burgers and rides snowmobiles.[3] She admits that she used marijuana when it was legal in Alaska, but says that she did not like it.[4]

Palin holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Idaho. She briefly worked in the media and utility industries.[citation needed]

Palin holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association. Her husband, Todd, works for BP at an oil field on the North Slope[5] and is a commercial fisherman.[citation needed] On September 11, 2007, the Palins’ son Track joined the Army. Age 18 at the time, he is the eldest of her five children.[6] She also has three daughters, Bristol, 17, Willow, 13, and Piper, 7.[7] On April 18, 2008, Palin gave birth to her second son, Trig Paxson Van Palin, who has Down syndrome.[8] The Palin family lives in Wasilla, about 40 miles (64 km) north of Anchorage.[6]

[edit] Pre-gubernatorial political experience
Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council from 1992 to 1996 and became a two-term mayor and city manager of Wasilla, one of Alaska’s fastest-growing communities. She was in office from 1996 to 2002.[9] Palin was also elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors.[7]

In 2002, Palin made a failed bid for Lieutenant Governor, coming in second to Loren Leman in a four-way race. After Frank Murkowski became governor (resigning his long-held U.S. Senate seat in mid-term), some considered Palin to be his possible successor.[citation needed] However, Murkowski appointed his daughter, then-Alaska State Representative Lisa Murkowski.

Then-Governor Murkowski appointed Palin Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission[10], where she served from 2003 to 2004 — until resigning in protest over what she perceived to be the “lack of ethics” of fellow Alaskan Republican leaders.[citation needed] Her critics included the state Republican party’s chairman, Randy Ruedrich, one of her fellow Oil & Gas commissioners (who was accused of doing work for the party on public time, and supplying a lobbyist with a sensitive e-mail).[11] Palin filed formal complaints against both Ruedrich and former Alaska Attorney General Gregg Renkes (who was eventually acquitted). Palin also served an elected term on the Valley Hospital board.[citation needed]

I’m the same way. I think we got Alaska in the tank for McCain. What we need is a VP who can deliver Michigan, Ohio and or Florida.

Forgot the rules:

Sarah Palin is also a babe

Vice Presidential Prospects
Main article: Republican Party (United States) vice presidential candidates, 2008

Palin has been rumored as a unique and viable candidate for the Vice-Presidency with Republican presumptive nominee Senator John McCain in the 2008 election.[41][42]

Due to her female status, her background in government reform , pro-life, fiscal and social conservative, and an approval commonly ranging in the 80%-90% within her state, Palin could become the ticket to solidify the Conservative base, garner independent support as well as some of the dissenchanted Hillary female support. Furthermore, Palin has a strong and growing community of online supporters lobbying for her

[47] Despite these factors, there has been no indication from John McCain's campaign of a Palin pick and major media outlets have rarely mentioned Palin as potential Vice President pick.

Well ... Reagan picked HW Bush for his running mate ... a man who had criticized his tax plan as “Voodoo Economics.” So just because Biden had commented on Obama’s inexperience would not rule out his joining the ticket ... just politics as usual.

I’m sure it’s photoshopped but supposedly she was “in” their February edition and I can’t find if that was true.

I just now came back from the house. What these drywallers did was horrible. They even used “wet” sheetrock between 2 other layers. Mold has already started to grow. I have a piece of it now.

The guy who is here fixing it was just amazed at what they did. I just pray the mold hasn’t moved further on.

Alaska Daily News says the cover shot is fake:

Palin. Vogue.
Posted by Alaska_Politics

Posted: January 24, 2008 - 2:54 pm

From Kyle Hopkins in Anchorage —

The issue of Vogue with Gov. Sarah Palin is out. Kate Bosworth is on the cover.

The governor’s on page 147, seen standing in front of “her family’s seaplane.” Big green jacket. No glasses.

The second shot is a full page of Palin walking in the snow. The magazine gives top billing to Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who gets more of a glamour shot. Palin is billed as a “straight shooter determined to fight corruption.” There’s a recap of her trip from mayor to govenor. A few references to hunting and dead animals.

Sample line: “Besides being telegenic, she had a tough-girl Alaskan resume that most politicians could only dream of - the protein her family eats comes from fish she has pulled out of the ocean with her own hands and caribou she has shot.”

Doesn’t look like the story is online yet, and we can’t reproduce the photos here without copyright issues. Send a link if you see one.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Gov. Sarah Palin got a break from answering questions about federal corruption probes and natural gas pipeline applications this week to take on the heady subject of fashion.

Palin struck a pose for Vogue, a fashion magazine that spent Wednesday morning at her Wasilla home.

The 43-year-old former high-school athlete and ex-television broadcaster would not be out of place in the magazine.

In a state where residents are not shy about voicing their political opinions, Internet blogs also don’t ignore this aspect of the current occupant of the governor’s office. One proclaims Alaska and Palin: “Coldest State, Hottest Gov..”

But don’t let her black or red power suits fool you; the fashion photographer quickly learned this week that Palin is an Alaska girl at heart.

“At first they had me in a bunch of furs,” she said. “Yeah, I have furs on my wall, but I don’t wear furs. I had to show them my bunny boots and my North Face clothing.”

Photographers took shots of Palin - often including her daughters Bristol, 17; Willow, 13; and Piper, 6 - to be published in an upcoming edition.

As for the story line, Vogue was vague.

Magazine spokesman Patrick O’Connell only said she will be part of a story for its February edition to be released late January.

Palin was a little more forthcoming, saying Vogue wanted to talk more about fashion and women in leadership.

Palin has attracted plenty of attention from national media outlets during her inaugural year as the state’s first female chief executive.

She’s been interviewed by CNBC, MSNBC and Newsweek, and shared the spotlight on PBS’ The Charlie Rose Show with Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano.

Most questions have focused energy related issues, like applications that have been received for the right to build a pipeline, or on the federal corruption probes that continues to dog the state.

And she was glad to have an international fashion publication interested in Alaska for other reasons.

“Can you imagine if our administration would choose to shun any kind of national limelight and let them capitalize on some of the negative with the corruption trials,” Palin said.

“Yes, it’s humbling,” she said, “but it’s also a responsibility we’ve taken on: changing Alaska’s image.”

Vogue photographers picked the right day for the shoot, with a fresh layer of snow serving as a backdrop at her home about 40 miles north of Anchorage.

“It was the most perfect day in the world with the new snow,” she said. “Everything was just too perfect: the mountains and the sun and the fog on the lake.”

And for the record, Palin prefers clothing made by more outdoorsy clothiers, like North Face and Columbia rather than runway fashion dresses.
