"It’s pretty hard to find a “non-career” woman with above average intelligence today. People consider it almost a sin for a girl to be family orientated. At least here in the PRNYC."

30 years ago, when I was a teenager, there was an old adage, that if you want to find a traditional gal to marry, go the Midwest.

It's still true today.

Get a one-year posting from your employer in some part of flyover country, or get an agreement take a sabbatical (so you have a job when you come back). I know that New Yorkers find Kansas City, Cincinnati, Des Moines, and Peoria to sound awfully boring, but you will have a wonderful time as long as you don't act like an arrogant New Yorker (I don't say that accusingly) and you will meet some awfully nice, traditional ladies.

Spoken by someone raised in Los Angeles, who married a Kansas City gal 21 years ago. I'm still in love, she's still gorgeous, she's still a doll, and we have three wonderful children.

I lived in the country for the last 5 years and thought I found the right girl. I just came back pretty heartbroken.

It didn’t work out due to cultural differences with the family. She still lived home. I’m not a bad person but don’t fit in since I wasn’t born here. My Jewish name didn’t help either.

Maybe I’m picky but I’ve never been attracted to a woman here. They act too much like men. Nice to have fun with but I don’t feel any attraction.

The ironic thing is that so many people in New York city these days (especially Manhattan and northern Brooklyn) are FROM places like Kansas City, Des Moines, etc.

I wasn't too impressed with the women I have met in South Carolina and Tennessee (two areas where my sister has lived over the past few years). The higher quality women get married young, while what's left over are the tattooed, trashy "redneck girl"/Tammy types. All the women down there are also into the whole "megachurch" thing which is a huge turnoff.

Well, it doesn't have to be that way in this day and age. I found myself a nice traditional Catholic girl right here in New Jersey. Granted, it wasn't easy. I had to use an internet Catholic matchmaker site to do it.

She's a nurse so she's got an education. We both wondered what kind of parents we would be considering we both found other people's kids to be mostly annoying. After we had our first, however, everything changed. Now we have five of our own and she's now a retired nurse and full-time Mommy. And strangely, other people's kids aren't nearly as annoying as they used to be.

For those people who don't think their hearts are big enough to love a child of their own, I advise them not to use that as an excuse. The only reason to not have children if you are married and physically capable is selfishness. If you are too self-centered and self-focused to love a child more than yourself then please, don't have one.
