State science standards in election spotlight (ID/Creation Kansans need to vote!)
The Wichita Eagle ^ | August 1, 2008 | LORI YOUNT

Posted on 08/18/2008 9:35:10 AM PDT by GodGunsGuts

With five seats on the State Board of Education up for grabs this year, education advocates say how children learn about evolution hangs in the balance -- and who voters choose could affect Kansas' national reputation.

A frequent flip-flop between moderate and conservative majorities on the 10-member board has resulted in the state changing its science standards four times in the past eight years.

Conservatives have pushed for standards casting doubt on evolution, and moderates have said intelligent design does not belong in the science classroom.

In 2007, a new 6-4 moderate majority removed standards that called evolution into question.

This year, none of the three moderates whose seats are up for election are running again. Only one of the two conservative incumbents is running for re-election...

Having a biblical worldview means among other things that you interpret scripture with scripture. Jesus referred often to Genesis and Moses’ writings as literal and historical.

They are. What I'm claiming is that there is always a means or a method in those stories about God doing things and the means or method is never outside the laws of physics or mathematics; the same is not true of the evolutionites or their impossible scenarios and dogmas.

Chengis Khan, having established the Yassaq, or basic Mongolian system of laws, obeyed it personally, on the general principle that if one person were above a system of laws, the system was worthless. There is no reason to think that God, having established the laws of physics, would do any less.

Creation “Science” is vastly superior according only to the criteria that it conforms to what you believe and doesn't challenge it with uncomfortable facts.

Creation “Science” has made no discoveries, does no research, finds no medicines, develops no new medical techniques, and explains nothing that was not already “known” by its adherents.

Vastly superior as long as productivity usefulness and knowledge isn't your goal; which apparently it isn't.

Are you sure you’re conscious?

Scientists don’t determine what’s taught in school books, school administrators do!

The truth is a group of angry little people have sued normal people into silence or removing anything remotely to do with Christianity from public view/use. There are mountains upon mountains of cases and evidence.

Elitists that think they know what everyone should be learning....errrrrr....programmed, are essentially terrorizing others.

They’ll hijack the courts and the Constitution to enforce their world-view. Evolution is a mere tool of theirs since there’s no mention of God.

The Georgia ACLU didn’t even do that, all they had to do was pick up a phone and threaten to sue and bingo...without so much as a single soul being consulted on the matter, the word Christmas was removed from the school calendar here.

For the millionth time, it’s not an issue of science, disagreements between scientists, it’s much broader than science.

journalism, politics, law...

This is FR, I’m somewhat shocked you’re unaware of it which leads me to ask...

are you a proponent, active member of the ACLU or just another useful idiot?

What a curious post...science in the middle ages consisted of a medevel barber, bleeding people to death with mixtures of pagan magic and alchemy and religion but make no mistake, it contributed to everything we know in some way about science today!

Of all the scientists that ever lived in the world, it would be interesting to know how many that believed in creation as described in Genesis “contributed to science” vs. their peers that just thinks everything ‘just is...with no purpose, randomly, by chance’ and so on.

Science never included magic, pagan or otherwise.

I don’t care about evolution in science class, this was my position from day 1, I only asked ID be PRESENTED, NOT EVEN TAUGHT...

We are aware that you don't care about evolution, or the scientific method. You have made that abundantly clear in your posts.

It seems that all you want is your particular narrow brand of fundamentalism presented as an alternative to science. For now. If you ever gained the ability to mandate things, I'm sure you would have your brand of fundamentalism presented instead of science.

Don't you realize that science is about evidentiary, not revealed, knowledge?

Having said that, Creation Science is vastly superior to ID, and infinitely superior to Darwin’s fairytale of unintelligent design.

Creation "science" is not science at all. It is a lie from the beginning.

It was invented after creationism was removed from public schools by the U.S. Supreme Court. Creationists couldn't teach creationism in school any longer, so they just renamed creationism as a "science." Never mind that creationism is the opposite of science, never mind that it does not follow the scientific method, never mind that it can't produce any evidence--just rename it as "science" and use that guise try to force religion back into the schools.

The Supreme Court was not so easily fooled, and creation "science" was booted a couple of decades later.

Creation science is superior to ID only in that it is pure creationism, while ID is creationism lite, in still another dishonest attempt to bypass the Supreme Court and force religion into the schools.

As for the theory of evolution, there are mountains of evidence supporting it. In this it is also the exact opposite of creationism.

Creation Science is merely Creation Mythology dressed up in a lab coat and sent to school

I went back and read what you’re talking about. You got me. I confused what the Pope has said about intelligent design with what IDers say about the same. Nevertheless, based on the Pope’s past statements, I still maintain that his beliefs about how life got started falls under the intelligent design umbrella. He’s just alot more specific than they are as he gives God the credit.

Not true. Plenty of Creation Scientists have made notable scientific discoveries. Indeed, many scientific disciplines were founded by Creation Scientists.

What’s apparent is that the godless left cares nothing about science. From the hot air cult junk science of global warming to homosexualism is normal, the godless left has proven time and again it’s a failed, utterly failed model for science.

Period.

That they have to hijack the constitution and courts to enforce their programmed socialist worldview proves it’s unable to stand on it’s own as well.

“It seems that all you want is your particular narrow brand of fundamentalism presented as an alternative to science. For now. If you ever gained the ability to mandate things, I’m sure you would have your brand of fundamentalism presented instead of science.”

Well “it seems” that way to you because you are programmed! We’ve been over this and you were thoroughly trounced pages ago.

#1. Christianity WAS in the schools, as recently as the 50’s with prayer and so forth, and we didn’t become some terrible Theocracy THEN with some Inquisition type religion that replaced science. Sorry but your dog is now rotten.

#2. Evolution wasn’t removed from science when kids prayed in school or God was recognized in public, MOREOVER I’ve not proposed we remove evolution but only present alernative ideas!

Something your side can’t say they’ve done and IN FACT had to hijack the courts to enforce!

That’s not science, that’s coersion. And when it is science it’s either junk or morally diseased. (hot air cult and normalization of homosexuality)

WHat IS more likely is that the godless left, if left to their own devices, is FAR more likely to one day soon also normalize bestiality, pedophilia and Go only knows what if the left has IT’S way!

It’s a proven failed model!

And when you’re done with that...go ahead and show us how godless liberalism is objective...I’m still awaiting the arguement that godless liberals can be objective ANYWHERE!

Where’s the evidence of that????????

pick what you’d like:

journalism

history

law

politics

YOU pick!

so much better to accept that it all just happened on it’s own with no order or purpose and no intelligence?

It’s not most people’s reality.

And your side is too afraid to do anything less than sue your opponents into silence.

Doesn’t matter, who DISallows children to read them?

Who wouldn’t even allow kids to read them on their own time or allow them into the school library?

It’s interesting you should bring up global warming. There are of course exceptions on both sides, but whenever I find someone on the wrong side of the Creation/Evolution debate, I usually find they are on the wrong side of most ever controversial scientific issue, to include the real cause of global warming (or for that matter, the real cause of AIDS...check out my profile page to learn more...if you think what is contained there needs to be investigated, FReepmail me and I’ll add you to my Rethinking AIDS ping list—GGG).

Keep telling yourself that.

Or better yet why don’t you tell us?

You keep saying things like “I.D. research” or “Creationist research”. Source some. How many experiments are conducted each year at the Discovery Institute? How many peer reviewed journals of ‘Creationist Geologist’ or ‘Creationist Biology’ are published? What discoveries have they made? What great breakthroughs?
