Would McCain Cheat at Saddleback But Not at the Hanoi Hilton?
Vanity | 08/18/2008

Posted on 08/18/2008 6:49:59 AM PDT by Brices Crossroads

I notice that the Mainstream Media has picked up, and now run with, the Obama smear that McCain actually cheated by watching a portion of Obama's performance in the Saddleback Forum. Aside from the fact that this is completely unsubstantiated and evidence of sour grapes on Obama's part(inasmuch as McCain cleaned his clock in the forum), it is also a canard that is positively counterintuitive. In 1969, McCain was offered early release from the Hanoi Hilton, where he had been brutally tortured for 2 long years as a POW, after being shot down over North Vietnam. The North Vietnamese realized that McCain's father was a high ranking Admiral and that, if they released McCain, they could score propaganda points by showing how the U.S. favored its elites. The Code of Military Conduct required that POWs be released in the order of capture. McCain declined the release, although I doubt anyone would have faulted him for it in light of his serious medical problems, including two badly broken and dislocated arms. He remained in Communist Custody, including long periods of torture and solitary confinement, for over THREE MORE YEARS. .

Is it probable that McCain would undergo such unbelievable torture to uphold the Code of Military Conduct and then turn around and cheat to gain political advantage at a religious forum?

McCain should throw this right back in Obama's face. I hope he sees this and does so. The very suggestion that a man of McCain's integrity and record would violate the rules is outrageous.

John McCain needs to come out STRONG on this and threaten to sue somebody for defamation of character or something.

Sounds like the obamaniacs realize how poorly their messiah did and are trying to make excuses.

Obama’s people know know Barry flopped......hard. They have to get people talking about something other than the actual content to hide it. If anything, it will just make him more of a laughing stock.

.

Good post.
Whatever flaws McCain has, he is a man of courage and a man who loves his country.

Read here: http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/2008/01/28/john-mccain-prisoner-of-war-a-first-person-account.html
his account of his years of torture as a prisoner in VietNam.
How many of us could withstand this? I couldn’t. That’s for sure.

No, that would just make him look silly. All he needs to do is send one of his spokesmen out on the circut and say something like:

The Obama camp wouldn't be floating such ridiculous accusations if their candidate had not performed so poorly.

Then cite specifically why.

This is crazy. The questions were not that hard. McCain answered the way he answered similar questions at his town halls. Obama (who always has his questions screened at his rock star events), probably was never asked such tough questions.

This proves the Office of Presidency is way above Obama’s paygrade!

Your argument is specious basing it on something over forty years ago. In between he "cheated" on his first wife. Does that cancel your argument?

I am not saying he cheated. Even the moderator assured the world he was in a "cone of silence" but your argument is poor.

McCain answered questions that weren't asked to Obama because Obama took so long to answer and he answered them just as well as he answered the questions that were asked to Obama. End of story. McCain should invite Obama to another session (since Warren had other questions he didn't get to) and volunteer to go first.

And keep repeating Obama’s “above my pay grade.” remark. Work it into every third sentence.

No. Human beings cheat. Many politicians cheat, that is true. I am asserting that the circumstances here make it far more likely than not that John McCain did not break the rules, because he refused to do so in Hanoi, to his great personal detriment and when he had much more to gain.

McCain is a graduate of the US Naval Academy. When he went there,,they still had a “Plebe Year”. During that year you are constantly harassed and disciplined by upper classman.
When you come lunch/dinner table they ask you professional questions..some you are supposed to know and some you aren’t. You are supposed to answer two ways..the correct answer or “I’ll find out Sir!”. If you guess and loose..you literally loose your ass or are required to “come around” to the upper classman’s room and answer more questions while doing pushups or deep knee bends etc.
I’m sure that McCain could guess what the questions would be at Saddleback..and he was prepared and certain of his answers.

Not this time. McCain is just a better speaker. Obama has too many Uh’s, Er’s and i-i-i-i-i-i-if’s. A lot of his answers were non-answers.

This accusation makes BO look like an Ass. McCain should address him directly. Obam said he prepared for one of the answers in advance by researching it. The Dems are cheaters so that is what they accuse him of. HE WON FAIR AND SQUARE GET OVER IT. They cannot deal with losing this election and will do ANYTHING to win.
